Research Notes

  • Owen Daniels and Jermaine Gresham were used in similar ways during the regular season but had very different games Saturday. Daniels set game-high totals with nine catches, 91 yards and four first downs, while Saturday marked the second time in the past five years Matt Schaub targeted Daniels more than 10 times. Gresham caught 2-of-7 targets for 7 yards, no first downs and had a pair of dropped passes. Daniels (62 catches) and Gresham (64 catches) were the second-most targeted receivers on their teams, with Daniels trailing Andre Johnson and Gresham trailing A.J. Green.

  • Arian Foster finished with a career-high 40 touches on Saturday, recording 174 yards from scrimmage and Houston's lone touchdown. Foster became the second back this season to record at least 140 rush yards and 30 receiving yards in a game (Jamaal Charles in Week 3). Foster recorded 41% of Houston's offense, his third-highest rate this season, and caught all of his season-high eight targets in the passing game.

  • The Texans sent at least five pass rushers on 40% (14-of-35) of Andy Dalton's dropbacks Saturday, compared to only 21% (10-of-47) in last year's postseason matchup. The Texans were much more successful pressuring Dalton with extra rushers this year, putting him under duress or sacking him on 6-of-14 dropbacks, Dalton's second-highest rate this season.

  • Andy Dalton's performance among the worst since 1999 for quarterbacks with at least 30 attempts in a postseason game.

  • With 140 rush yards Saturday against the Bengals, Arian Foster has 425 rush yards in his first 3 career postseason games. That is the most ever by a player in his first 3 postseason games.

  • Arian Foster surpassed 100 yards rushing Saturday vs the Bengals. He is the 1st player in NFL history to rush for at least 100 yards in each of his 1st 3 career playoff games.
