Research Notes

  • From Elias: Joe Flacco averaged 23.5 yards per completion vs the Colts, the 2nd-highest rate in a playoff game in NFL history.

  • Colts finished with 419 yards but no touchdowns. That is the 2nd-most yards ever in a playoff game by a team that failed to score an offensive touchdown. The only team with more yards and no offensive touchdowns were the 1988 Eagles who lost in the famous 'Fog Bowl' to the Bears.

  • From Elias: Ray Lewis is by far the most productive player in Ravens' postseason history. His 112 tackles are more than the next three players on Baltimore's career leaderboard combined.

  • Lewis has been the Ravens defensive backbone for more than 15 seasons and that remains evident today. Baltimore's pass rush is significantly better in games that he plays in, particularly when it comes to bringing added pressure. Ravens opponents have a Total QBR over 50 points higher against 5 or more pass rushers in games that Ray Lewis has missed this season.

  • The Colts had dominated the Ravens in the playoffs before today; in their 2 previous meetings, Baltimore scored nine total points. That wasn't the case Sunday as it was Indianapolis that was held to nine points in the Ravens 15-point win.

  • Colts receivers dropped seven passes Sunday against the Ravens, including four on third or fourth down. Both totals rank as the most by a team in the last three seasons (including postseason). Five different Colts receivers dropped a pass Sunday: T.Y. Hilton (2), Reggie Wayne (2), Donnie Avery (1), Vick Ballard (1) and Coby Fleener (1). Bernard Pollard's fourth-quarter personal foul against Reggie Wayne negated what would have been an eighth drop.

  • The Ravens put under pressure or sacked Andrew Luck on 7-of-18 (39 percent) dropbacks using at least five rushers. The Colts struggled to protect Luck all season long, who was under duress or sacked on 33 percent of dropbacks against extra rushers (seventh most in NFL). Luck completed 5-of-14 passes for 56 yards against at least five rushers, including a dropped interception by Ray Lewis.

  • Adam Vinatieri's 52-yard field goal to end the first half is the longest of his 47 career postseason field goals.
