Research Notes

  • Russell Wilson's QBR of 86.4 is the 2nd-highest in a playoff loss since 2008.

  • Zach Miller caught all eight of his targets for 142 yards, 6 first downs and a touchdown. Miller became only the second tight end this season with at least eight targets and a perfect catch percentage (Jason Witten in Week 4, 13-for-13).

  • According to ESPN Stats and Info's win probability model, the Seahawks had a 1.4 percent chance of winning after Jason Snelling's 5-yard touchdown reception gave Atlanta a 27-7 lead with 2:11 left in the third quarter

  • Russell Wilson keyed a second-half comeback by utilizing play action effectively. The Seahawks used play action on 6-of-20 (30 percent) dropbacks in the first half, completing 2-of-4 passes for 39 yards and scrambling twice for 26 yards. In the second half, Wilson used play action on 13-of-23 dropbacks (56.5 percent) and scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns on play-action dropbacks, scrambling for a score and finding Zach Miller for another.

  • Matt Ryan was 8-of-12 for 87 yards and three touchdowns when using play action Sunday. That's the second-most completions and the most touchdowns for Ryan on those plays in a game this season. The Seahawks hadn't faced more than 10 play-action passes in a game this season, and hadn't allowed a multi-touchdown game.

  • Matt Ryan's average target depth was 12.1 yards downfield Sunday, the highest single game rate of his career. Although Ryan threw both of his interceptions on throws more than 10 yards downfield in the game, his eight completions (8-of-16) were two fewer than his combined total in his previous three postseason games (10-of-27).

  • NEXT LEVEL: The Falcons had 88 rush yards after contact against the Seahawks, who had allowed the second-fewest yards after contact in the NFC during the regular season. Jacquizz Rodgers gained 35 of those on the last play of the first quarter, a 45-yard rush that was his longest play this year. Atlanta's 76 rush yards after contact in the first half is the most by the Falcons in an opening half the last 4 seasons.

  • Matt Ryan faced a defensive back blitz for the first time all game on his first-quarter interception. The Seahawks would blitz a defensive back eight times afterward, with Ryan going 7-of-8 for 111 yards, six first downs and a touchdown. The Seahawks used such pressure on both of Ryan's pass attempts in the final 30 seconds of the game (2-of-2, 41 yards).

  • From Elias: Seahawks-Falcons was the 2nd game in NFL postseason history with 2 lead changes in final 31 seconds of regulation (other: "Music City Miracle")

  • In the Super Bowl era, the Seahawks are the 6th team to score 21 points in the 4th quarter of a playoff loss. They've done it in each of their last 2 playoff losses. In this instance, however, the Seahawks took the lead in the 4th quarter. They're the only team in the Super Bowl era to score 21 points in the 4th quarter of a playoff game, take the lead -- but go on to lose the game:

  • Matt Bryant: Made last 10 FG attempts of 49+ yards (regular season/playoffs combined)
