Research Notes

  • Peyton Manning has a Total QBR of at least 80.0 in all 3 matchups against Eli, and he has an NFL-high 55 games with an 80.0-plus Total QBR in the QBR era (since the start of 2006), more than double Eli's total. Peyton has won nearly 78% of his games during that span, while Eli has won around 58%.

  • Peyton Manning logged an 89.1 Total QBR in Sunday's win against his brother Eli, who posted a 57.5 Total QBR. Peyton has had a higher QBR in each of his 3 head-to-head matchups with Eli (all wins).

  • The Broncos had 13 penalties for 132 yards Sunday, as opposed to four penalties for 16 yards for the Giants. The Broncos' +116 penalty yard margin is the largest for a winning team since Week 9 of 2007 (Patriots +121 over Colts).

  • Peyton Manning finished 25-of-32 for 205 yards and two touchdowns on throws 10 yards downfield or fewer. Broncos' receivers gained 116 yards after catch on those short throws, their second-straight game with more than 115 yards after catch. Broncos' receivers exceeded 115 yards after catch on short throws in only three games last year.

  • The Broncos are 2-0 without Von Miller this year, and put together another strong performance in coverage when using a standard pass rush. The Broncos are averaging twice as many passes defended or intercepted per game this year (5.0) as last year (2.5) when using four or fewer rushers. However, for the second week in a row the Broncos defense couldn't generate pressure with a standard pass rush.

  • Eli Manning struggled to protect the football again Sunday, throwing four interceptions to bring his league-leading total to seven this season. Manning's deep ball was a big problem, as he completed 1-of-7 passes deeper than 20 yards downfield for 51 yards and two interceptions. Manning threw two interceptions all of last year on those throws.- Manning was 3-for-9 for 14 yards and three interceptions targeting Ruben Randle, including 1-of-7 for 7 yards and 3 interceptions on throws deeper than five yards downfield.

  • From Elias: Peyton Manning has 769 Pass yds, 9 TD and 0 Int already this season...FROM ELIAS: That's the most passing yards AND the most passing TD without an interception through 2 games in NFL history.

  • The Broncos are the 4th team in NFL history to defeat the last 2 Super Bowl champs in consecutive weeks. They're the first team to do so since 1992, when the Eagles beat the Redskins and Giants in the last 2 games of the season. The only other team to accomplish the feat in the first 2 games of the season was the 1992 Cowboys, who went on to win the Super Bowl that year.

  • From Elias: The Giants 10 turnovers are their most through 2 games in franchise history.

  • The Broncos are the 7th team in the Super Bowl era to score 40 points in each of their first 2 games of a season. Two of the previous 6 teams won the Super Bowl.
