EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Special teams star David Tyree was inactive for the New York Giants' game with the Washington Redskins on Sunday night following the death of his mother in Florida.

Thelma Tyree of Lake City, Fla. died Saturday night after having a heart attack. The five-year veteran was informed of the death by his wife at the Giants team hotel in New Jersey that evening and left to be with his family.

"We have told David to do what he needs to do and to let us know what we can do as he and his family cope with the loss of his mother," coach Tom Coughlin said.

A Pro Bowler in 2005, Tyree has played in 11 games this season after missing the first two with a fractured wrist. He is tied for second with eight special teams tackles. The receiver also has two receptions, both at Chicago on Dec. 2.

Giants starting safeties Gibril Wilson and James Butler also were inactive. Wilson missed his third straight game with a knee injury, while Butler was out for his second straight with a hamstring injury.

Washington quarterback Jason Campbell, who dislocated his left knee 10 days ago, was among the inactives for the Redskins. Todd Collins, who had not started a game in 10 years, replaced Campbell.
