Rex Ryan will not inform players who are being cut today as part of 75-man cutdown until after practice. "For no better term, we're gonna use this -- we can practice today -- I guess we'll use guys as cannon fodder, if you will," he said. "But that's not really the case. I mean, it is the case, but it's also, if there is an injury or something like that, then you have your whole roster to choose from. But obviously we have a plan in place for letting guys go."

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Edgar Bennett will call the plays Thursday night vs. KC. He typically lets the offensive coordinator do that in the preseason finale. "Just an opportunity for Edgar," McCarthy said. "As an assistant coach, you wish you had the opportunity to do it for real. Also, it gives me a chance to focus on the personnel for the game."

Carolina has four moves to make.

New Panthers punter Andy Lee continues to wear No. 8 as a tribute to his late daughter, Madeline. Lee made the switch from his traditional No.4 to 8 last year after being traded from San Francisco to Cleveland. He did it to honor the memory of Madeline, who lived only eight days in January before dying of complications after her birth. Sean Payton said Saints plan to play their starters in first quarter of Thursday's preseason finale, and it sounds like that includes QB Drew Brees, who hasn't played in preseason finale since 2006. That shows how eager Saints are to get some momentum going after a sloppy 0-3 start to this preseason.
