ESPN Stats and Information

Sammy Watkins (LA), Robert Woods (LA) and Marquise Goodwin (SF) have combined for 251 receiving yards so far tonight. The most they ever combined for with the Bills was 217 yards.

DT Michael Brockers now being assisted off the field, making him the third Rams defensive starter out (along with DB Lamarcus Joyner and CB Kayvon Webster). Brockers being down opens more snaps for Tanzel Smart and Tyrunn Walker.

49ers WR Marquise Goodwin had a costly drop in each of the first two weeks and had been quiet throughout Thursday night's game but he just made his presence felt for the first time as a Niner with a 50-yard catch. Adjusted well in air and hauled it in.

49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk has a neck injury and will not return to the game. S Jaquiski Tartt is being evaluated for a head injury and his return is questionable.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams' offensive line has gotten beat a lot in goal-line situations with Todd Gurley. Nice design by Sean McVay, stacking Sammy Watkins and Cooper Kupp, then calling for a quick play fake with Jared Goff, who hits Watkins on a quick slant.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers take another hit at safety as Jaquiski Tartt went down following a big gain for the Rams. Tartt was down for a bit but able to stand up and walk off on his own. He headed directly to the Niners locker room. Already without Eric Reid, the 49ers are very thin at safety. Undrafted rookie Lorenzo Jerome replaced Tartt at strong safety.

QB Jared Goff looks really comfortable in this Rams offense. Play action, movement passes and timing routes where Goff is getting the ball out at the top of the break.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Another thing we're seeing with Jared Goff tonight: Patience to let plays develop. Perfect example was a play-action rollout. Cooper Kupp had a step on his defender over the top, but it was a tight window. He waited, hit Robert Woods short, allowed him to run for what became a 25-yard gain. 2016 Goff doesn't do that.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

When the 49ers made it a one-score game near the midway point of the third quarter -- on a one-yard touchdown run by Carlos Hyde on fourth down -- they had outgained the Rams, 261-253. The Rams' offense is better than the Rams' defense right now. Crazy thought.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

The 49ers held the Rams to a field goal with a goal line stand and followed with a nice touchdown drive to cut the Rams lead to 27-20. Mentioned it at the half, the Niners can't afford to settle for field goals in the red zone. It took RB Carlos Hyde four tries from the 1 but he eventually got in.

Kevin Seifert NFL Nation

I don't agree with the roughing the passer penalty on Rams DL Aaron Donald. I can only assume this is the rule that referee Jeff Triplette would cite: "When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on top of him with all or most of the defender's weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player's arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Yet another beautiful throw from Jared Goff, and a really impressive catch from Sammy Watkins. That's a 47-yard connection on the outside. And that is exactly why Watkins was brought here. Encouraging to see Goff get him the ball there.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Thursday turnarounds, man. Now Rams center John Sullivan is walking gingerly off the field. Was pointing to his groin. Austin Blythe, claimed off waivers from the Colts, is filling in.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams DB Lamarcus Joyner (hamstring) has been ruled out. No small loss. Cody Davis will try to fill his shoes.

ESPN Stats and Information

There were 37 combined points scored in the 1st half tonight. Excluding the Week 1 Thursday night games (more time to prepare), this is the combined highest-scoring 1st half on a Thursday Night since Week 6 of 2014 when the Colts led 27-14 over the Texans at the break.

Steelers injury report after Thursday's practice. Stephon Tuitt participating fully is a welcome sign, but reserve OT Chris Hubbard will start at right tackle unless Marcus Gilbert's injury perks up.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams finished the first half from Levi's Stadium with an 11-point lead. Sloppy game, and if you want to be very negative, you can point to the defense committing too many penalties and allowing too many third-down conversions. But here's what really matters: Jared Goff and Todd Gurley look really good. What a difference a year makes.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

The 49ers rebounded after a rough start but their inability to finish drives with touchdowns instead of field goals has them trailing the Rams at the half. Red zone efficiency was something LT Joe Staley harped on this week and though the Niners scored on their first trip inside the Rams' 20 tonight, they settled for a field goal after a muffed punt at the Rams' 18. Los Angeles, meanwhile, is 3-for-3 in the red zone. If the Niners are to come back to win this one, they must finish in the end zone in the second half.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Todd Gurley has his third touchdown today and his sixth touchdown of the season, which matches his total from all of last year. To recap: Gurley has six touchdowns in 10 quarters this year, after six touchdowns in 64 quarters last year.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

After an awful start to the night, the 49ers offense is having its best half of the young season against the Rams. They had four third-down conversions in their first two games and already have five in the first half tonight. Further, kicker Robbie Gould's field goal just gave them 13 points in the game. They combined for 12 in the first two games.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams had a hard time defending third and long against the Redskins on Sunday and are having similar issues on Thursday. The 49ers converted a 3rd and 17 just after the midway mark of the second quarter, making them 5-for-8 on third downs.

ESPN Stats and Information

Per the Elias Sports Bureau, Todd Gurley is the second player in Rams history with a Rush TD and Rec TD in the first quarter of a game. The other was Wendell Tyler in Week 15 of 1982 against the Raiders.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Johnny Hekker with a 64-yard punt to flip the field. He is about as good at his job as anybody -- at anything, in any walk of life.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams DB Lamarcus Joyner has a hamstring injury. His return is questionable.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Oh man. Tavon Austin is already having a hard enough time getting on the field on offense. He has to at least do a good job returning punts. He just dropped one, at his own 12-yard line.
