Vikings center John Sullivan got the day off, coach Mike Zimmer said, because the team needed to get a longer look at Joe Berger in the ongoing competition between the two. Tight end MyCole Pruitt will get an MRI on his leg. Initial tests didn't show anything on Antone Exum's leg after he was carted off, Zimmer said. Safety Michael Griffin was on crutches after the game; Zimmer said Griffin's back locked up on him.

The Jets released 11 players and placed WR Devin Smith (knee) on reserve/PUP list. It means he's shelved for at least six games. No surprises among the 11: K Ross Martin, G Jarvis Harrison (5th round pick, 2015), WR Kyle Williams, G Jesse Davis, C Kyle Friend, LB Deion Barnes, DT Shelby Harris, DE Helve Matungulu, RB Lache Seastrunk, RB Terry Williams, TE Jason Vander Laan. The roster stands at 78. They have to make three moves by Tuesday.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera indicated that whether another safety is signed could hinge on the return of Dean Marlowe (hamstring), who is moving better but still not practicing. Rivera said backup quarterback Derek Anderson took a rare day off because he was sore from a hard hit against New England on Friday. As for punter Matt Scifres, who injured his kicking knee against the Patriots, Rivera said he was feeling better but still is scheduled to meet with team doctors to determine if there is any damage.

Despite making a 55-yard field goal last night, the Jets' Ross Martin is out of a job. The undrafted rookie was released today by the team, a source confirmed.
