Ugly morning in Chicago where the Bears host Kansas City in their third preseason game. Chicago starters are supposed to play at least two quarters, but slick conditions may alter playing time for some members of the first team.

The Jets and Giants play their annual preseason game tonight -- aka the MetLife Bowl. The winner receives an actual Snoopy trophy. Asked what the Bowl means to him, Jets coach Todd Bowles said, "Not much." His predecessor, Rex Ryan, was the exact opposite. He always hyped the game and the rivalry.

Coach Ron Rivera was looking for wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to be ready for 30-35 snaps when the season opens on Sept. 8 at Denver. After playing just 17 snaps in the first two preseason games, Benjamin played 34 in Friday night's 19-17 loss to New England. The 2014 first-round pick was targeted six times, catching three passes for 27 yards. Second-year receiver Devin Funchess was targeted 10 times, catching five for 49 yards.

Redskins defensive end Anthony Lanier is an undrafted free agent with a legitimate chance to earn a roster spot. He made a nice stop after being double teamed Friday night. He also rejected a pass, allowing him to use his basketball background -- he played two years of hoops at Alabama A&M. "It was like pinning someone to the backboard," Lanier said.

Colin Kaepernick went 2-6 in first game in 292 days. If that wins him starting job, then Blaine Gabbert bigger failure in SF than JAX

Can now confirm that the Falcons are bringing in veteran safety Dashon Goldson for a visit today, as NFL Network first reported. Goldson last with Redskins after stint with Bucs and 49ers. Falcons looking for help with first rounder Keanu Neal set to undergo knee scope Monday. Kemal Ishmael's progress from shoulder injury might indicate if Falcons turn to veteran such as Goldson.

Asked if he would consider releasing QB Colin Kaepernick if he doesn't win the starting job, coach Chip Kelly said "we've never had a conversation about cutting Colin Kaepernick."

On his quarterback competition, 49ers coach Chip Kelly says that "we will sit down as a staff and see where we are" this week. Kelly said he doesn't want to rush into any decision right after walking off the field. Kelly said Colin Kaepernick was "up and down like all of us on offense." Kelly says there's still no timeline on naming a starter.

The Packers get touchdown passes from Aaron Rodgers and Joe Callahan, strong rushing performances from Eddie Lacy, John Crockett and Brandon Burks in their 21-10 preseason win over the 49ers.

FINAL: Packers 21, 49ers 10. The score doesn't mean anything but the Niners might have gotten some more clarity on their quarterback competition. Blaine Gabbert led a touchdown drive on one of his two opportunities and Colin Kaepernick generated just one first down on three possessions in his preseason debut. With one preseason game and two weeks of practice left, it looks more and more like Gabbert is going to nail down the job though Chip Kelly probably isn't in a hurry to make such a proclamation.

Winston escapes pressure, tosses TD

On third-and-goal, Jameis Wintons withstands the pressure from the Browns' defense, evades the pocket and finds Charles Sims in the end zone for a 3-yard score.
