From MLB's Eddie Grant in 1918 to the NFL's Pat Tillman in 2004, athletes from the major pro leagues were among those who died in overseas wars. Grant, a former infielder for Harvard and the Indians, Phillies, Reds and Giants died in France in World War I. Tillman, a star on defense for Arizona State and the Cardinals, enlisted after 9/11 and was killed in Afghanistan. On Memorial Day and always we remember with appreciation all who sacrificed for our safety and freedom.

Michael Vick clarified to me that he has not talked to anyone from the Falcons organization about signing a 1-day contract to retire as a Falcon. Just an idea that he hopes gets addressed. But no formal or informal discussions with the team just yet. Yes he wants to retire a Falcon.

Spike Lee posted a congratulations message to Colin Kaepernick for signing with the Seahawks on Instagram, but he has since taken it down. Per a source, Kaepernick has not signed with the Seahawks. He visited with the team this week and left town without a deal.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy said Thursday "I'm sure we'll work something out" regarding his goal-line touches this season. McCoy ran for 13 touchdowns last season but he split carries with backup Mike Gillislee, now in New England, at the goal line.
