Play of the day: Cornerback Orlando Scandrick came up with an interception of a Dak Prescott pass in the final 11-on-11 drills where the first-team offense and defense competed against each other. Prescott was looking to fit a tight pass into Cole Beasley, but the pass deflected into the air to Scandrick. It was the sixth interception in 14 padded practices for Prescott, who had 219 passes in team and seven on seven drills in camp.

Today's injury report at camp: Defensive end David Irving was back to practice after missing time with an ankle injury. With DeMarcus Lawrence limited, Irving could start Saturday vs. Indianapolis. The following players did not practice: S Xavier Woods, CB Jourdan Lewis, LB Sean Lee, DE Tyrone Crawford, DT Cedric Thornton, DE Benson Mayowa, WR Ryan Switzer, QB Luke McCown, TE Rico Gathers. All but Mayowa are expected to sit Saturday.

Overheard at camp: "The tempo is terrible." Midway through practice, the Cowboys removed their pads and went with shells as they worked through preparing for Saturday's game against Indianapolis. Coach Jason Garrett was not pleased with what he was seeing and let his players know. It was also interesting to hear defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli cheer on the scout-team offense.

Updating further on 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman's shoulder issue that kept him out of the latter part of practice. He says it was just a stinger, something that he has had before and is fairly normal. Bowman said he could have gone back in if needed.

49ers play of the day for practice 15: Things finally boiled over after a relatively peaceful practice with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday. It happened when quarterback Brian Hoyer's pass intended for receiver Jeremy Kerley bounced off Kerley and into the hands of a Broncos defender. On the ensuing return, Niners receiver Pierre Garcon and Kerley started mixing it up with Broncos defensive backs including Chris Harris Jr. and it escalated into a bigger issue that took some time for the side to be separated. It was the first of a handful of skirmishes on the day.

Overheard at 49ers' practice 15: "He's pissed because he's getting beat." -- Linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong after a small scuffle broke out between Niners pass rusher Pita Taumoepenu and Broncos OT Donald Stephenson. Taumoepenu has come on a bit in recent days and was having success getting to the quarterback in team drills. Things got a bit chippy for the next couple of plays but didn't escalate to the level of some of the fights earlier in practice.

Adrian Peterson said he doesn't know yet if he'll play in the preseason this year. "I'll talk with Coach when that time comes," Peterson said. "And if they say, ‘Hey, we're rolling,' we're rolling.' If not, it is what it is." Chances are, if Peterson and Saints veterans like Drew Brees and Mark Ingram play in the preseason, it won't come until Week 3. But there is a good chance Peterson will make at least a cameo appearance with his new team – even though he hasn't played in the preseason since 2013 and hasn't touched the ball since 2011.

The Rams are officially done at UC Irvine. They will train out of their regular-season facility in Thousand Oaks starting tomorrow, with a light walk-through in the morning and then a flight to Oakland for Saturday's preseason game. Practice was very light today, too. Said Sean McVay: "I couldn't be more pleased with the way the guys competed, went about the meetings, and the way we practiced every single day."

Broncos coach Vance Joseph said after Thursday's practice that Jamaal Charles, Matt Paradis and DeMarcus Walker will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the 49ers. Joseph also said he didn't know yet if wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders (shoulder) and Cody Latimer (knee) would play in the game. Sanders and Latimer were held out of practice Thursday.

49ers rookie report from practice 15: Coach Kyle Shanahan said after Thursday's practice that rookie QB C.J. Beathard will get the first chance to work with the No. 2 offense against Denver on Saturday night. Beathard was third in the pecking order last week in Kansas City but he's been pushing Matt Barkley for the No. 2 job. Beathard will likely play into the second half.

49ers injury report from practice 15: In Thursday's practice, LB NaVorro Bowman suffered what coach Kyle Shanahan described as a shoulder sprain similar to what happened to Reuben Foster yesterday. Bowman left the session and did not return though, like Foster, the injury isn't considered serious. It's unclear if he will play Saturday night against Denver.

Thomas Rawls has what Pete Carroll called a "minor" ankle issue and won't play Friday against the Vikings. Meanwhile, linebacker K.J. Wright, who had a "process" on his knee, is expected to return to practice next week, Carroll said.

Overheard at camp: "What are you reading a book in there? Let's go!" Redskins coach Jay Gruden to the third team offense during a two-minute drill. Gruden had been imploring them to get in and out of the huddle faster and was clearly annoyed with their pace throughout the drill.

We must remain mindful of the timeline in a situation like Aaron Donald's. JJ Watt is the only one among the five-highest paid defensive players to sign his extension after just three accrued seasons. On the Rams, Tavon Austin and Robert Quinn also got extended heading into their fourth years. They all got done right around the early part of September. There's still time.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he expects LB Reuben Foster (sprained shoulder joint) to play in Saturday night's preseason game against the Denver Broncos. Foster suffered the injury on Wednesday afternoon and was limited to no-contact drills in Thursday's practice.

John Keim ESPN Staff Writer

Rookie report: Receiver Robert Davis, a sixth-round pick, showed inconsistent hands early in camp. "He did not squeeze the ball well, but he's catching the ball at an excellent rate now," receivers coach Ike Hilliard said. Davis has proved a quick study, learning both the X and Z spot. A big key: how he fares on special teams. He made a tackle in coverage in the preseason opener; the Redskins have been seeking a receiver to help in coverage for a few years.

Why did Marshawn Lynch sit for the anthem? He simply said that the "elephant" is out of the room because a "mouse" scared it away.

49ers LB NaVorro Bowman confirmed that he was not fined for participating in arm wrestling event with other players back in the spring. He actually took home a trophy and some prize money.

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

TJ Jones back with the first team at Lions practice instead of Kenny Golladay in three receiver sets. Golladay had a couple good catches, though.
