Bears running back Jeremy Langford sprained an ankle during Thursday night's walk thru practice and sat out on Friday. Langford battled an ankle injury last season as his playing time decreased due to Jordan Howard's emergence. Langford also sat out many of Chicago's offseason workouts.

Can the Ravens have a worst start? Joe Flacco should be fine but losing Kenneth Dixon, John Urschel, Dennis Pitts and Darren Waller hurts.

Bears OLB Pernell McPhee -- already on the PUP list -- underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday morning, head coach John Fox told reporters after practice. There is no timetable for McPhee to return to the field.

Newly-signed tight end E.J. Bibbs is practicing with the Redskins today -- but veteran Derek Carrier is not. It's uncertain why Carrier isn't practicing.

Busy day for Seahawks adding Marcus Smith and D.J. Alexander on defense. Bringing back Marcel Reece was very smart.

Giants owner John Mara: Odell Beckham is going to be paid the appropriate amount at the right time. Just can't give a timetable right now.

Overheard: Linebacker Clay Matthews met some crew members from the Navy ship the USS Green Bay after practice. He told them they should have come on Saturday, when the Packers will practice in pads. When one of the Navy men asked if they do the ‘Oklahoma drill,' Matthews said: "I might have to take a sick day if we do."

ookie report: On Day 2, rookie Kevin King got his first chance to work with the starting defense. It was likely just a rotational move, but the second-round pick worked at right cornerback with the No. 1s. It was the spot manned by LaDarius Gunter on Day 1. Davon House remained as the starting left cornerback for the second straight day.

Best play of Packers' camp, Day 2: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix appears to have picked up right where he left off last season, when he tied for the NFL lead among safeties with five interceptions. During an 11-on-11 drill, Clinton-Dix made the perfect read on Aaron Rodgers as he scrambled to his left and looked to tight end Martellus Bennett down the left sideline. The Pro Bowl timed his break on the ball perfectly and intercepted it in stride for what might have been a pick-6.

Overheard at Jaguars practice: After undrafted rookie WR Keelan Cole's third impressive catch, one observer joked: "Forget the A-Rob extension. Sign this kid instead." The Jaguars and Allen Robinson's agent have had preliminary discussions about a contract extension. Robinson, whose nickname is A-Rob, is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said newly-signed rookie DL Solomon Thomas will jump into practice on Saturday. Thomas signed his deal during Friday's practice then spent the rest of practice working on a side field. Shanahan anticipates that Thomas will be able to practice with no restrictions beginning Saturday.

On free safety Jimmie Ward, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said the team wants to be safe and smart with Ward's strained hamstring. Shanahan didn't think the injury was too serious but Niners and Ward will play it safe for now. Jaquiski Tartt worked at free safety with the starters in Ward's place on Friday. Undrafted rookies Lorenzo Jerome and Chanceller James handled the free safety job with the backups.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said LB Reuben Foster had a "good first day" as he returned to practice following recovery from shoulder surgery. Foster is working at WIL linebacker with the backups for now. Shanahan indicated that's where Foster will mostly work for now but he'll also get an opportunity to work at middle linebacker.

Jaguars rookie report: Keelan Cole wasn't the only undrafted rookie WR to stand out on Friday. Amba Etta-Tawo, who caught 94 passes for 1,482 yards at Syracuse last year, made several tough catches in the middle of the field, including one in which he had a defensive back on his back. It's going to be tough for any receiver to make the roster because there are only one or two spots available after Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Marqise Lee, and Dede Westbrook.

Jaguars play of the day: Undrafted rookie WR Keelan Cole made three impressive catches on Friday, including one on the sideline while he was being mugged by CB Jalen Myrick. Cole made the catch over his shoulder with his right hand while Myrick had his left arm pinned. That was the first of two impressive catches he made on throws from backup QB Chad Henne.

RB Isaiah Crowell said his agent Drew Rosenhaus is "in heavy communication" with the Browns about a contract extension, but Crowell is not sure where talks stand. "This is where I want to be. I am comfortable with my teammates, love my teammates, love my coaches and just love the city of Cleveland," said Crowell, who can be a free agent after the season.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers defensive lineman Solomon Thomas worked on a side field as the Niners went through their first practice of training camp. Thomas signed his rookie deal about 30 minutes into the practice.
