The Saints have fired team orthopedists Deryk Jones and Misty Suri, per source, after it was discovered that CB Delvin Breaux has a fractured fibula and will require surgery expected to sidelined him for 4-6 weeks. Breaux was originally diagnosed with a contusion – and the team was frustrated that he wasn't recovering more quickly until the missed diagnosis was revealed. It was accurately reported that the team has had an issue with Breaux's string of nagging injuries in the past, but this case is different. And it seems unlikely at this point that the team will be as eager to trade or release Breaux.

Here's a case of one former Jets quarterback (Ryan Fitzpatrick) tweaking another (Mark Sanchez): On last night's episode of "Hard Knocks," Bucs QBs Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston are chatting in the locker room at halftime. Fitzpatrick tells him to grab a hot dog. "I've never seen a hot dog in here," Winston says. Fitzpatrick tells him they're in the back room, adding, "Just don't do a 'Sanchez' and eat one on the sideline." Winston: "He had one on the sideline?" Fitz: "Respect the game."

Play of the day: Wide receiver Brice Butler ended practice catching a fade pass on third and goal from the 4 from Kellen Moore. Cornerback Duke Thomas was looking for an interference call but Butler was able to beat his jam and go up for Moore's pass for the touchdown.

Today's injury report at camp: Tight end Rico Gathers suffered a concussion after an inadvertent helmet to helmet collision with safety Kavon Frazier. Gathers and Frazier were going for a Cooper Rush pass and came together in the middle of the field. Gathers remained down for a little bit but was able to walk off the field. His status for Saturday's game is not clear.

Overheard at camp: Dez Bryant is hoping Ezekiel Elliot will be able to play at the start of the season even as the runner faces a suspension. "You can't rule Zeke out just yet," Bryant said. "He's got an appeal and we're going to wait and see about that. Zeke's still out here practicing, still going hard. We're still preparing (as) if we're going with him and that's what we're going to do."

Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith will play Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts, according to owner and general manager Jerry Jones.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones deferred comment on the Ezekiel Elliott situation until he gets "my feet on the ground," about all aspects of the running back's six-game suspension. Elliott filed an appeal of the ruling Tuesday.

WR Sammy Watkins got action in 11-on-11 work today, eventually working with the first-team offense and even catching a pass across the middle from Jared Goff. Rams coach Sean McVay said he's "picking things up pretty quickly. It's a tough time to come in terms of where we're at in the installation because pretty much everything's in. We've gotten all of our situations, so, we're going a little bit faster than you'd be accustomed to early on. But I thought he picked things up well."

Rookie report from Rams camp: Nice play from safety John Johnson, jumping a deep-post route from Pharoh Cooper to intercept Jared Goff during 11-on-11 work. Rams coach Sean McVay recently identified Johnson as someone who "continues to emerge." He's been used on special teams and both safety positions.

The Jets have announced the creation of the New York Jets Fan Hall of Fame, debuting this season. Dedicated fans will be chosen via an annual selection process, coordinated by Jets personnel, legends and a fan vote. Fans can nominate themselves or be nominated through a third party. The inaugural class will feature three inductees; they will be honored at halftime of the final home game this season. And, yes, they will receive a commemorative jacket.

Best play from Rams camp today actually came from Jared Goff. It was a beautiful deep throw to Josh Reynolds, perfectly in stride, right over a defender's outstretched arm for a touchdown. Came after a rough stretch for Goff during 11-on-11 work, so, a nice confidence boost for him.
