The Redskins used a position of depth to acquire center depth. They traded corner Dashaun Phillips to Pittsburgh for center Lucas Crowley, an undrafted free agent who started the last two years at Carolina. It's likely a swap of players who would have been cut. The Redskins needed more centers with Spencer Long sidelined after knee surgery. The Redskins hope Long returns for the season opener.

The Steelers have acquired Redskins corner Dashaun Phillips in exchange for center Lucas Crowley. The team announced the move Wednesday night. Last year, Phillips played five games in a nickel-corner role, recording seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Steelers are an unfinished product at corner and are looking for help.

Jared Goff raved about the first-team offensive line, said it "no doubt" felt different: "They've done a great job, just as a whole. They've really worked together; they're starting to jell. I think you saw that last Saturday. The Oakland defensive line is no slouch. They have some dudes over there. They did a great job keeping them away and giving me a good pocket. It wasn't just throw it and get hit. It was clean, the whole time."

Rams QB Jared Goff, when asked if Saturday's performance gives him confidence: "I think it does that for the whole team, just seeing it come to fruition. ... But it wasn't like it was shocking."

No surprise, but RB Lance Dunbar, who has spent all year recovering from an old knee injury, will begin the season on PUP. Behind Todd Gurley, it's Malcolm Brown, Justin Davis and Aaron Green, perhaps in that order.

Sean McVay, on Rams-Chargers, the "Fight For LA" and Saturday's game: "It offers a great opportunity for two teams, in a great market, to try to put a sound product out there. I think it'd be a little different if we were both in the NFC."

Sean McVay, on the Rams' offense: "We know that we have a long ways to go. Certainly last week was positive, but by no means does that mean that we've arrived."

Change of plans with Rams starters for the third preseason game. They'll have a similar workload to this past Saturday, playing through the first quarter and potentially into the second, rather than an entire half. Todd Gurley got eight carries against the Raiders and may get even get less against the Chargers. Offensive linemen Andrew Whitworth, Rodger Saffold and John Sullivan will probably exit before Goff, too. Starters obviously won't play in the fourth preseason game in Green Bay.

The Colin Kaepernick rally concluded after about an hour and a half of speeches, poems and prayers. Hard to tell how many people were outside the NFL headquarters in NYC, but suffice to say it was a lot more than the approximately 70 who showed up in the first rally back in late May.
