The NFL has no update on Martavis Bryant, who is two months into the application process for reinstatement. A source close to Bryant says the suspended Steelers playmaker is encouraged by his case. Coach Mike Tomlin said he's 'hopeful' about Bryant's return but knows it's out of his hands. The Beaver (Pa.) County Times says reinstatement is imminent.

Major blow for TJ McDonald, the former Ram and current free-agent safety who, according to ESPN's Field Yates, has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2017 season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that it stemmed from McDonald's May DUI, which included drug charges. The Rams figured something would eventually come down from that, but were going to move on anyway. Maurice Alexander is moving over to strong safety, and Lamarcus Joyner has a strong chance of being the free safety on 3-4 sets (slot corner in nickel/dime packages).

The Packers have signed G Justin McCray, who has spent time with the Tennessee Titans. He played in college at Central Florida. Probably not a leading candidate to replace T.J. Lang at right guard but at least gives the Packers more competition there.

The Cardinals signed free agent WR Harvey Binford on Wednesday. Binford, who's 6-feet and 185 pounds, participated in the NFL Pro Player Combine that was held at the Cardinals' practice facility last weekend. He spent the 2016 training camp with the Green Bay Packers and was released during final cuts.

Interesting follow-up to center Max Halpin working out for the Rams, Ravens and Falcons -- a source tells me that his WKU teammate and best friend, guard Forrest Lamp, will be working out with him for all three of those workouts. Two-for-one deal? Why not!

The NFL has hired four new officials for the 2017 season, according to the NFL Referees Association. Mike Carr, Ryan Dickson, Brad Oliver and Brad Rogers will be part of the officiating roster. The NFLRA recently confirmed the retirement of three officials. It was not immediately clear what prompted the fourth opening.

Defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche's ankle injuries last season were more severe than the Cardinals initially believed, coach Bruce Arians said. The severity of the ailments weren't fully known, however, until Nkemdiche suffered a late-season ankle injury that revealed a "slight tear." Arians said Nkemdiche's ankle is "all healed now."
