Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril said this on 710 ESPN Seattle about his mindset as he recovers from surgery on a career-threatening neck injury he suffered this past season: "First and foremost, my health is most important. So for me, I just want to get back to just feeling good. I just want to just being able to move around and hopefully be able to go outside and play basketball with my kids, different things like that. That's the main goal for me, not necessarily getting back to football but just quality of life. But now as I continue to keep chopping away, I don't want to just close the door on it. So I definitely think I can get back on the field. If it's possible, I will. But if not, deep down inside I'm OK with that. As long as I'm able to be a dad and be able to run around with my kids, that's No. 1 for me right now."
