There's optimism in contract negotiations between the Chiefs and safety Eric Berry, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He reported Kansas City is making a strong push to re-sign Berry and is determined to keep him with the Chiefs. Berry has said he will not play another season as the Chiefs' franchise player. Wednesday is the deadline for teams to name franchise players.

The franchise tag for a defensive end will be 10.14% of the salary cap, per source. That comes out to $17,035,200 for JPP and Giants if the cap is $168M.

The five-year, $42-million deal the Steelers handed Antonio Brown after his second season was one of the best second contracts ever.

Antonio Brown's four-year extension for $68 M (per ESPN insider Adam Schefter) on a five-year deal overall will likely be structured with a sizable signing bonus to spread out over years and assuage the cap hit. The Steelers know this contract could have some dead money if Brown's play declines, especially if the last year of his precious deal ($4.71 M) stays on. But he turns 29 in July and will be 32 or 33 by the end of those years. Larry Fitzgerald is 33 and just led the league in receptions.

Nothing finalized yet, but a source says the Rams will "most likely" franchise CB Trumaine Johnson again. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Dan Graziano reported the same. That would mean Johnson gets paid about $16.7M in 2017, an exorbitant amount of money for someone who was, for the most part, average in his first year as the primary corner. It would take up nearly half of the Rams' salary cap space, with SS TJ McDonald also a free agent and a desperate need at receiver. It speaks to the Rams' urgency to preserve depth in their secondary, which has eroded very quickly.
