Racquel Smith explained that her husband Will Smith normally kept his gun in the glove compartment. But on the day he was shot, he had decided not to bring his gun with him to the French Quarter festival and quickly reached in the driver's side door to put his gun back in the car. ... The state said earlier that Smith's gun was found wedged between the seat and the console -- not in the glove compartment.

Falcons announce the re-signing of DE Malliciah Goodman to the active roster and the promotion of OL Kevin Graf to the active roster. Team releases DL Cliff Matthews and C Trevor Robinson. Goodman the team's fourth round pick out of Clemson in 2013. Falcons still need bodies at defensive end with Adrian Clayborn recovering from knee surgery. Matthews got some looks vs. Chiefs but now it out of a job.

The Cardinals signed P Matt Wile to their practice squad today and released LB Reshard Cliett. Wile punted against Arizona two weeks ago with the Falcons and averaged 58 yards on two punts. He was brought in to compete with Drew Butler, whose distance has been an issue this season.

The defense attorney for Will Smith's alleged killer, Cardell Hayes, is asking questions to one of the homicide detectives about the results of gunshot-residue test on Will Smith's hands, about why Smith's glove box was open and about video of Smith's behavior and disposition at bars and restaurants earlier in the day. The detective did not know the results of the gunshot-residue test or any surveillance videos. Others will testify to that later. ... So far there has been no evidence that Smith's gun was ever fired, but defense suggested in opening statement that Smith reached into glove box for gun before Hayes shot him.

Rookie strong safety Karl Joseph walked gingerly through the Raiders locker room on Tuesday, his left big toe in pain after, he said, someone fell on it in Sunday's game. Told coach Jack Del Rio said he had a "shot" to play Thursday night in Kansas City, Joseph slowly shook his head. Then Joseph, Oakland's first-round draft pick, put on his walking boot and limped out of the locker room.

The Jets have released RB C.J. Spiller and KR Jeremy Ross. You knew there would be some fallout after last night's debacle. Spiller played in four games (31 offensive snaps). He had three rushes, one reception and five kickoff returns. This is the third time Ross has been released since the preseason. He returned six kickoffs last night, averaging 20 yards. This means PR/KR Jalin Marshall likely is returning from a concussion.
