Bills WR Sammy Watkins' reps will be "managed" at the start of training camp, coach Sean McDermott said Thursday. McDermott said he is pleased with how Watkins has worked to recover from offseason foot surgery. Starting LT Cordy Glenn (ankle) will also be limited at the start of camp, McDermott said.

From Thursday's Broncos practice ... Overheard: Quarterback Paxton Lynch on why he cuts the sleeves off the t-shirts he wears under his shoulder pads: "I had a coach at Memphis tell me 'nothing grows in the shade'." And on the Broncos moving quickly through a practice that came in under two hours, coach Vance Joseph said: "it's about being fast, it's about being clean."

From Thursday's Broncos practice ... Rookie report: As expected first-round pick Garett Bolles got some work at left tackle with the starting offense. Bolles has steadily worked his way up the depth chart throughout the offseason and still looks on track to be the starter in the regular season if the Broncos see what they want to see in the preseason games as well as the joint practices with the 49ers in August. Second-round pick DeMarcus Walker left practice and didn't return with what coach Vance Joseph called "heat issues." Walker said earlier this week he had tried to train at altitude for two weeks before camp opened to be prepared. He's expected to practice Friday.

From Thursday's Broncos practice ... Best play: Any time Von Miller was set loose in 1-on-1 pass rush drills. Miller looks fit and poised for another year when he's in the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year. Miller repeatedly showed his speed to the corner in the 1-on-1 drills as well as the ability to make the transition from speed to power when he needs to. The Broncos will practice in pads for the first time in this training camp on Sunday morning.

49ers RB Carlos Hyde wins the crown for being first to proclaim he's in the best shape of his life entering this camp. Hyde said he weighed in at 228 pounds today and has been between 224 and 228 all summer. Hyde said he hasn't played that light since high school. He's entering a contract year and says he wants this year to be "different."

49ers safety Eric Reid said he has been in contact with Colin Kaepernick and attended a couple of Kaepernick's camps in the offseason. On speculation that Kaepernick might land with the Baltimore Ravens, Reid said "I'm excited for him. I hope it works out to where he gets on a team." Reid, of course, knelt with Kaepernick in protest of racial inequality last season.

49ers strong safety Eric Reid said he hasn't heard from team about a contract extension as he heads into final year of his rookie deal. Reid acknowledged that he thinks about his contract status but also that he knows he has to prove himself to new regime at a new position.

Rams GM Les Snead, on Aaron Donald: "He's still a priority, Aaron, for sure. And that's been a priority for us then (in the spring), this summer, and even as we head into camp." Asked if he's optimistic they can get a deal done with Donald, Snead said: "We're working to find a resolution. I don't want to get into optimistic or pessimistic, because it's a complicated situation. We respect Aaron and his group, and we're working to find a win-win."
