More good fortune for the Cowboys. Cordarrelle Patterson's kickoff return for a touchdown called back because of a holding penalty. The correct call, too.

Needing a win to have somewhat realistic chances of making the playoffs, the Cowboys lead 10-0 at halftime against Oakland, but missed a chance at three takeaways and had a fortuitous pass interference penalty wipe out a touchdown. Offensively, they started hot enough but had an interception wipe out a scoring chance on their first drive.

Both 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and LT Joe Staley said the Titans blitzed them more today than they'd ever been blitzed in any NFL game. According to Pro Football Focus, the Titans blitzed QB Jimmy Garoppolo on 26 of his 46 dropbacks (56.5%). Against the blitz, Garoppolo was 16-of-23 for 214 yards with a 98.8 passer rating.

Jared Cook broke the Cowboys hearts in the playoffs last January with a first down grab on third and forever for Green Bay. He was called for pass interference tonight to wipe out a Raiders touchdown. Was it a penalty? Perhaps but the half couldn't have ended better for the Cowboys with Giorgio Tavecchio missing a 39-yard field goal attempt.

After allowing 52 yards on their first three drives. the Cowboys have given up 53 with the Raiders at their 11 late in the first half.

Jared Goff, on Todd Gurley: "I might be a little biased, but I think he's the best running back in the league. He's the most complete running back. He can do it out of the backfield, he can do it in the passing game, he can do it in the pass-protection game. Obviously the way he runs is special. He deserves everything coming his way. I think the best thing about him is he could care less about that."

Rams coach Sean McVay said it was "a point of emphasis" to get Todd Gurley going on the ground today. "Certainly you don't want to make the same mistake again. Todd makes you right."

In a jubilant post-game locker room that had similarities to the improbable playoff win in San Diego in the 2006 season, Tom Brady celebrated by FaceTiming home and talking fantasy football and Star Wars with his kids.

Rams LG Rodger Saffold: "Any time we face adversity, we come back. I don't think we've lost two games in a row all season, which shows you the character of this team."

NFL avoids what could have been a huge issue with Jerry Richardson voluntarily selling the team. Takes league off the hot seat with this one — a problem that the NBA clearly had with the Clippers' Donald Sterling when they had to force him to sell.

Bobby Wagner apparently took issue with Earl Thomas' opinion that Wagner shouldn't have been playing today on his injured hamstring. Wagner tweeted and deleted: “E keep my name out yo mouth. Stop being jealous of other people success. I still hope you keep balling bro."

Defensive end Benson Mayowa is questionable to return with a back injury. He might have played just one series before coming out.

Adding to an already trying year, #49ers WR Marquise Goodwin said after today's game that his biological father died earlier this week. That, on top of losing his baby to pregnancy complications earlier this year. Still had another big game today with 10 catches for 114 yards. “I've been dealing with a lot," Goodwin said. "I'm blessed. I'm thankful for the opportunity. God has shown me so much in this season...It's just been a lot, but I really didn't let the outside negative energy affect how I play, how I approach this game or how I come to work each day. I just kind of stayed positive and kept my mind fresh, and I relied on God to bring me through all of the situations that I've been through.”

Good news: The 8-6 Titans are still the No.5 seed in the AFC playoff race thanks to tiebreakers over the Ravens and Bills. Bad news: They will likely have to win at least one of their final two games (vs. LAR, JAX) to make it.

Sometimes I wonder if the Cowboys get them off schedule with their running back rotation. Alfred Morris had 51 yards on seven carries to start the first two series but then Rod Smith got the work on the third series. Morris came back on the fourth series and had two carries for no yards.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

Titans S Kevin Byard had high praise for 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo as well: “He is one hell of a player," Byard said. "I think the 49ers got themselves a quarterback."

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

Since Jimmy Garoppolo took over as 49ers' starting QB three weeks ago, these are WR Marquise Goodwin's averages: 8 receptions, 106.3 yards, catching 73 percent of passes thrown his way. Pre-Garoppolo: 2.5 receptions, 52.5 yards, 44 percent of targets.

Rams S Lamarcus Joyner: "I seen it in OTAs, I seen it in training camp — the continuity we had, the belief we had in one another. We win like this, it's no surprise to anyone."

Todd Archer ESPN Staff Writer

The last time the Cowboys had a runner with a rushing touchdown in four straight games came in 2014 when DeMarco Murray did it twice on his way to leading the NFL in rushing.

A division title is starting to feel real. Here's what Rams DT Aaron Donald had to say ...

Have to give Chidobe Awuzie credit for that tackle/hit on Marshawn Lynch. The running back was enthused with the hit, but Awuzie held firm enough there. The rookie will stick his nose in there.

I think beast mode has Novacaine running through his bloodstream because that dude feels no pain

Jeff Heath fails to come up with a fumble by Michael Crabtree forced by Chidobe Awuzie. That's at least the third missed opportunity at a takeaway for the Dallas defense.
