On free safety Adrian Colbert, 49ers GM John Lynch said if Colbert continues to play as well as he did against the Giants, it could force Niners to re-think secondary alignment moving forward. But key for Colbert is consistency. Also, Lynch called it a "long shot" that Colbert would play this week after thumb surgery last week. Didn't rule it out completely but might be difficult to return in such short order.

The Rams have waived TE Johnny Mundt, which probably means Derek Carrier is ready to return as the team's third tight end. Mundt can return to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

49ers GM John Lynch said coach Kyle Shanahan will make final decision on whether Jimmy Garoppolo or C.J. Beathard starts at quarterback this week. Lynch very complimentary of how Beathard performed in last game, though. "That's Kyle's decision," Lynch said. "Kyle and I, obviously, talk about it. But I think, they had that work in the bye - they'll come out to practice and let them play. C.J. played extremely well against the Giants … I'll let Kyle speak to that."

The Broncos have decided it's time to take a look at Paxton Lynch at quarterback. Lynch will start Sunday against the Oakland Raiders as the Broncos try to snap a six-game losing streak. The Broncos are expected to take a slimmed-down gameplan into the week to see if that helps their efficiency and get Lynch settled in some behind center.
