Falcons Training Camp Day 1 recap
Best play: Undrafted rookie S Deron Washington leaped in the air and snatched a Matt Simms play-action pass intended for undrafted rookie WR Reggie Davis in 11 on 11.
Rookie report: First round pick Takk McKinley, who had pre-draft shoulder surgery, looked "strong" according to coach Dan Quinn as he went through individual drills. The DE from UCLA was able to punch with his right hand without issue and said it was "great" to be back on the field. ... Third-round pick Duke Riley, the LB from LSU, made a cameo with the first team defense in the nickel package during 11 on 11. He lined up next to former college teammate Deion Jones, dropped back into coverage, then ran up as if to strike RB Tevin Coleman, who caught a screen.
Star watch: RB Devonta Freeman, still awaiting a contract extension, left the field for a moment but returned. He received treatment after practice and the team said he was feeling a little sick. We'll see what his status is for Day 2.
Eyeing Competition: At right guard, Ben Garland got the bulk of the first team reps ahead of Wes Schweitzer.
Quoting: "I don't know what y'all talking about. I'm just in camp. I didn't even hear about it. My ears ain't even pierced, so I don't even know what happened." Mohamed Sanu on Julio Jones losing a 150K earring in the lake.
