49ers K Robbie Gould on missed extra point: "I just rushed it," Gould said. "I missed it, I made a mistake. Obviously, I wish I didn't do that. We probably should be playing in overtime right now. But at the end of the day, they're counting on me to do my job and I didn't make the extra point that I needed to make."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams RB Todd Gurley, on the encouragement of being in a system that sets this offense up for success: "It feels good, man. It feels good. We haven't been able to put up points like that since Marshall and them left. ... I'm just happy for Goff, being able to go out there and sling it. Especially after the tough year he had last year. I'm happy to see him progress."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams NT Michael Brockers, on the struggles on defense: "There's so much we can clean up. The points that they scored was unacceptable. Not saying we feel like we're just the greatest defense ever, but we feel like we're better than that."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Aaron Donald, asked if this is the best Rams offense since he has been here: "For sure. McVay -- whatever he's doing, just keep doing it."

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers LB NaVorro Bowman said he believed the turnaround after playing about 80 snaps on Sunday had an impact on his performance against the Rams on Thursday: "I think it had a huge effect on my body personally," Bowman said. "I have done everything to get my body as close to ready for this game as possible but we signed up for this so the schedule says we have to play these games but there's no way I felt the way I felt on Sunday today."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, on the defense being on the field for so long late in that game, on such a quick turnaround: "We had to dig deep. We had to dig really deep. At that point in time, it ain't no pointing fingers, none of that. 'Let's just get it done.'"

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

The 49ers came out of Thursday night's game pretty banged up as LB Brock Coyle, FB Kyle Juszczyk and S Jaquiski Tartt are all in the concussion protocol. DE Tank Carradine also suffered an ankle injury and RB Carlos Hyde is dealing with a hip issue though he finished the game. The good news? They have some extra time to rest and recover before their Oct. 1 game at Arizona.

Dispatch from Levi's Stadium, the scene of a wild Thursday night game that should have Rams fans excited -- regardless of how defense and special teams performed.

The Niners have received strong performances from their defense in week 2 and from the offense in Thursday's night's loss. Now they have to figure out how to put it all together.

ESPN Stats and Information

Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the Rams 107 points this season are the most through three games in NFL history by a team to finish dead last in scoring the previous season. The previous "record" belonged to the 1954 New York Giants, who scored 106 points in their 1st three games.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

This was as wild and as thrilling a Thursday night game as one can imagine. The Rams were sloppy on special teams and not good on defense, but Jared Goff and Todd Gurley were both very good. And if defense and special teams are your biggest concern as a Rams fan, that is a good thing.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

The 49ers showed plenty of resolve in what turned out to be an entertaining Thursday night shootout against the Rams. But they will regret some missed chances early in the game to cash in an early takeaway for a touchdown. And the defense, after a strong outing against the Seahawks, appeared to be feeling the effects of playing nearly 80 snaps in that game. At 0-3, the Niners still have a lot to fix before Kyle Shanahan can get his first victory as a head coach.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Todd Gurley fantasy owners are getting more production in the pass game due to Sean McVay's offense. Through three weeks, Gurley has 13 receptions and has added two touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Aaron Donald, fittingly, may have ended this game with his first sack of the season.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

This defense has been on the field a loooong time. And it's a Thursday night game. They have to be gassed.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams today: Fumbled punt, fumbled kickoff, and allowing the 49ers to recover an onside kick. Unbelievable.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams keep the 49ers from converting the two-point conversion thanks to Troy Hill, who was just added to the active roster after serving a two-game suspension. He jumped the route. Good, aggressive play. Michael Brockers, who has exited the game twice, caught it.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Now Tavon Austin is being evaluated for a concussion, along with Sammy Watkins. Curious to see if we'll see some of Josh Reynolds, a rookie vertical threat who looked good during training camp.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams DT Michael Brockers exiting for the second time today, and he may be done now. Another thing to watch for tonight: Sammy Watkins is being evaluated for a concussion. If he remains out, probably more snaps for Tavon Austin.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams keep shooting themselves in the foot. A muffed punt by Tavon Austin earlier, and now a fumbled kickoff by Pharoh Cooper. Not to mention seven penalties, and the defense allowing the 49ers to do what they want on offense, wasting a great offensive performance.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

The Rams went into this game wanting to get Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods more involved. They have. A combined 12 catches for 214 yards and two touchdowns heading into the midway point of the fourth quarter.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Lot of positives for Sammy Watkins fantasy owners tonight. Watkins is up to 106 yards and two touchdowns on six grabs. The Rams WR is tied for the most targets on the team (seven) and he is quickly developing chemistry on the field with QB Jared Goff.

Dan Graziano ESPN Staff Writer

Fun game, yes, but also a potentially important showcase for the NFL. If quality of play is indeed declining, if coaches are struggling to prepare teams due to offseason work rules, then you'd think a 31-year-old head coach and a 37-year-old head coach, both creative offensive minds with mandates to construct rosters the way they want to construct them, would be the kinds of guys to whom you'd look to make things better. Kyle Shanahan doesn't have as much talent on his roster as Sean McVay does, but you can see the creativity and the way things might ultimately come together for either or both of these teams. Fun stuff, for sure.

ESPN Stats and Information

Sammy Watkins (LA), Robert Woods (LA) and Marquise Goodwin (SF) have combined for 251 receiving yards so far tonight. The most they ever combined for with the Bills was 217 yards.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

DT Michael Brockers now being assisted off the field, making him the third Rams defensive starter out (along with DB Lamarcus Joyner and CB Kayvon Webster). Brockers being down opens more snaps for Tanzel Smart and Tyrunn Walker.
