Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said he thought he could "help" Aldon Smith, were he able to have contact with the suspended linebacker. "But the experts know; the experts don't allow it so, you know, I just have to follow the rules," Del Rio said. "But it does get frustrating to not be able to help a young man, help provide support, provide structure, but somebody else has to make those decisions. That's just out of my hands."

At the NFL annual meeting in Arizona, responding to reports that Carson Wentz finished the season with a sore right elbow, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said: "I don't know where that came from. No truth to it at all. Carson has absolutely no issues with his arm. He's in great shape. "

In his second year, can Sebastian Tretola unseat one of the Titans starting guards, Quinton Spain or Josh Kline? "I hope so, that's why he's here," Mike Mularkey said in Phoenix. "He should be (ready), he's capable of challenging. It's really up to him." Mularkey also spoke as if newcomer Tim Lelito can challenge for an interior line spot. (That needs to be unlikely.) Lelito may also have a great camp battle with third-tackle Dennis Kelly for work as a tight end in a jumbo package.

Veteran DE Chris Long, who spent the 2016 season with the Patriots, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Eagles. Long had previously said he wouldn't be returning to the Patriots, as he enjoyed his Super Bowl season in New England but was looking to be part of a scheme that he felt would allow him to get back to being himself. The Eagles' 4-3 defense under coordinator Jim Schwartz fits the bill for him.

No big pronouncement on changing timetable. Intention has been to hold him out of off-season. "If he's ready, we'll see what he can do. We'll allow him to do what he's capable of doing."

Ravens coach John Harbaugh on soon-to-be 65-year-old Bill Belichick: "I don't think he is slowing down. The guy is winning rings. He's stumbling over all the rings he's winning. He's the best, and it's not surprising to see him work as hard as he does."
