Pete Carroll said of the Seahawks' unsuccessful fake field goal at the end of the first half, "It would have been a really good call if we made it." Carroll said that, at worst, the Seahawks felt Luke Willson could have run out of bounds to stop the clock and give Seattle a closer look at a field goal, but he saw it as a chance to score a touchdown.

Pete Carroll called it a groin strain that led to running back Mike Davis exiting for good in the third quarter. Davis, who was cut by San Francisco over the offseason, vowed to be ready in time to face his former team on Sunday. Carroll confirmed cornerback Shaquill Griffin suffered a concussion and said right guard Oday Aboushi "banged his shoulder pretty good." He didn't know the extent of Aboushi's injury.

Blair Walsh said he was too worried kicking the ball straight and didn't drive it enough on his 52-yard attempt, which fell short to seal Atlanta's win. "That side of the stadium is definitely tricky and I wanted to make sure it was straight so it went through, but I need to probably drive it obviously more, and I didn't," he said. Walsh added: "It's tough when you're not there for your team in a moment like that, but I keep working my tail off and committing to what I'm doing. I was happy with everything else that I did in the game, so it's tough that the last play is what it comes down to, but that's part of football."

Falcons WR Julio Jones: "We don't give up on anyone. ... We're just going to support one another."

"We're a confident group. We feel like we can match up with anybody." Tacoma's Desmond Trufant after his Falcons defeated the Seahawks in Seattle.

There is such a huge separation between the top 5 NFL QB's...and everyone else.

The Seahawks wasted an opportunity to move into first place in the NFC West by losing to Atlanta. Lots of culprits in this one: a brutal start that included two turnovers and 14 straight Atlanta points, not enough pressure on Matt Ryan and an inability to get off the field on third down. The Seahawks' playoff chances drop to 58 percent, according to ESPN's Football Power Index. They would have been at 85 percent with a win.

The Atlanta Falcons now have put together two wins in a row over the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks to improve to 6-4. Most important, the Falcons hold tiebreakers in the NFC over the Seahawks, Cowboys, and Lions after beating all three teams. Atlanta seems to have some of their swagger back after snapping Seattle's 11-game, Monday Night winning streak. The Falcons are 5-1 in the NFC.

Blair Walsh's 52-yard attempt falls about three feet short and the Seahawks (6-4) lose a close one to the Falcons. The Rams (7-3) still hold a one-game lead in the NFC West.

Sheldon Richardson's first sack as a Seahawk comes at an excellent time. He dropped Matt Ryan for a 5-yard loss, forcing Atlanta to punt. Seattle will have a chance at a game-winning drive.

So the Falcons need a first down to seal the game and have to decide whether to run or pass, you say?

So many big-name injuries have ruined so many matchups, it's a treat to see Matt Ryan & Russell Wilson at work on same field
