The Cardinals signed free agent WR Harvey Binford on Wednesday. Binford, who's 6-feet and 185 pounds, participated in the NFL Pro Player Combine that was held at the Cardinals' practice facility last weekend. He spent the 2016 training camp with the Green Bay Packers and was released during final cuts.

The NFL has hired four new officials for the 2017 season, according to the NFL Referees Association. Mike Carr, Ryan Dickson, Brad Oliver and Brad Rogers will be part of the officiating roster. The NFLRA recently confirmed the retirement of three officials. It was not immediately clear what prompted the fourth opening.

Defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche's ankle injuries last season were more severe than the Cardinals initially believed, coach Bruce Arians said. The severity of the ailments weren't fully known, however, until Nkemdiche suffered a late-season ankle injury that revealed a "slight tear." Arians said Nkemdiche's ankle is "all healed now."

Bill O'Brien said J.J. Watt "is doing great" in his recovery from his September back surgery. "He's really looking forward to being back in Houston in a couple weeks," O'Brien said. "He's definitely on track to be ready to go. I don't know how much he'll do in OTAs and things like that, but he's on track to be ready to play and I will tell you that knowing J.J. the way I know him, he cannot wait to be back out on the field playing football."

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he doesn't regret saying Justin Bethel was a "failure in progress." The Saturday after Arians made those comments on Dec. 12 at a press conference, Bethel's father was at Cardinals' practice. "It's funny because his father came to practice that Saturday and grabbed me and said, ‘You trying to motivate my son?' I said, ‘Yeah,'" Arians said. "He said, ‘I think it's working.'"

The Bills have waived DE Scott Crichton after he failed a physical. Buffalo claimed Crichton off waivers Monday from the Vikings.

While it "appears" that Cardinals offensive lineman Jared Veldheer will move from left tackle to right tackle next season, it's not signed, sealed and delivered, coach Bruce Arians said: "I haven't been completely sold on it. I want to see him at that position first."

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said second-year offensive lineman Even Boehm will start at right guard. Arians felt Boehm proved he could play guard at the NFL level during Arizona's final three games of the season.

Bengals CB Adam Jones has the full support of Mike Brown, Brown told reporters at the owners meetings. Jones was arrested in January but the felony charge was dropped, leaving only misdemeanor charges that he plans to plead not guilty.
