The Cowboys have placed rookie linebacker Jaylon Smith on the reserve/non-football list, which officially knocks him out for the first six weeks of the regular season. The chances of Smith playing at all in 2016 remain slim because of two torn ligaments and nerve damage in his left knee suffered in Notre Dame's bowl game last January.

Sean Payton said the Saints will "have a chance to look at" new OL Khalif Barnes and DE Chris McCain over the next week -- essentially giving them an extended tryout. He said Barnes can play guard and tackle and has good size and power. He said McCain is built a little like current Saints DE Obum Gwacham and also does things in special teams.

The Saints have not yet announced their roster cuts today, but the following players were absent from Tuesday's practice after reports they had been released: DE Matt Shaughnessy, LB Dillon Lee, LB Jeff Schoettmer, S Jamal Golden, CB Jimmy Pruitt, WR Reggie Bell, G Kaleb Eulls, G Cyril Lemon, WR Jared Dangerfield, FB Sione Houma and LS Chris Highland. Also absent Tuesday were CB Brandon Dixon and TE RaShaun Allen.
