Niners coach Kyle Shanahan says Eli Harold and Ahmad Brooks are competing for starting SAM linebacker job. Harold started tonight after Brooks got the nod last week. One more competition to monitor next couple of weeks.

Derek Carr said he put his hand on Khalil Mack's shoulder during the anthem to show people that "it's ok for a white kid and a black kid that come from two different neighborhoods to grow up and love one another and be best friends."

Khalil Mack said Derek Carr placing his hand on his shoulder during the anthem was meant as "a show of unity."

The Raiders played their starters for three series in an eventual 24-21 loss to the Rams, into the second quarter, on both sides of the ball. And while the offense, particularly quarterback Derek Carr, looked crisp, the defense was burned to a crisp…other than reigning NFL defensive player of the year Khalil Mack. It was a good tune-up for both sides, though you have to wonder how much the Raiders will subject their front-line players to potential injury the next two exhibition games. Even if the defense needs major tinkering. It was the third-string defense that gave up the lead with just over a minute to play as Oakland fell to 0-2 in the preseason.

Sean Mannion marched the Rams 80 yards up the field for the game-winning drive in a 24-21 win over the Raiders. Mannion converted on 4th and 9 with a dart to Mike Thomas, who absorbed a helmet-to-helmet hit from a Raiders DB. Mannion then sailed a 20-yard pass up the sideline to Josh Reynolds, their long, athletic fourth-round pick, who battled for the football and won. Very good day all around for the Rams, now 2-0!8! the preseason.

The Bears stave off Arizona for a 24-23 victory, but the story is again the quarterbacks. Mike Glennon was so-so; completing 13-for-18 pass attempts for 89 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Rookie Mitchell Trubisky, who entered the game late third quarter, finished the night 6-for-8 for 60 yards and one touchdown. Overall, the Bears played better on both sides of the ball, especially on defense.

FINAL: Broncos 33, 49ers 14 -- The Niners turned the ball over five times, including three by the starting offense and Denver dominated on Saturday night. It's the preseason so it's hard to be too alarmed but the giveaways, penalties and other self-inflicted mistakes have been a common theme for the starters the first two weeks of the exhibition season. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan and his group have a lot of work to do between now and the start of the regular season.

FINAL: Broncos 33, 49ers 14. The Broncos moved to 2-0 in the preseason as they forced four turnovers when the first- or second-teamers were in the game and they forced a fifth turnover in the fourth quarter. And now the wait will begin to see when coach Vance Joseph makes the decision at quarterback.

Bears receiver Daniel Braverman can't handle a short kickoff. Arizona recovers. That's a bad mistake for a guy on the bubble.

In the first two preseason games, Texans rookie running back D'Onta Foreman has the team's longest rush (41 yards) and catch (63 yards). Foreman said he thinks he catches the ball well and wanted to show that is a part of his game.

Todd Archer ESPN Staff Writer

Jerry Jones wasn't ready to say Cooper Rush could be the Cowboys' backup to Dak Prescott despite the rookie's play. "I'm just glad to see Rush taking advantage of his opportunities out there," Jones said. "Wouldn't want to get ahead of ourselves in any way here. And the other thing is that we have a lot of confidence in (Moore), his ability to be able to get in there when we would call on him with the personnel around him and get the ball in the right places."

John Keim ESPN Staff Writer

Rookie corner Fabian Moreau has impressed corner Josh Norman. "It's no joke what he's putting out there on the field," Norman said. "He's going to be a great talent. But he's still got to work on some things."

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

Undrafted rookie WR Victor Bolden Jr. has had some good moments in training camp and just returned a kick 104 yards for a touchdown. The Niners need a kick returner but it's unclear if they'll have room for the talented Bolden. That return will help his cause, though.

Mitchell Trubisky rolls right and finds Benny Cunningham for a short touchdown reception. The Bears definitely like to call plays that allow Trubisky to move outside of the pocket. Trubisky is now 6-for-8 for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Jeff Dickerson ESPN Staff Writer

After two series, Mitchell Trubisky is 4-for-6 with 37 yards. Trubisky was lucky to avoid an interception on the ball he forced to Titus Davis. No reason to make that throw.

Jeff Dickerson ESPN Staff Writer

Mitchell Trubisky with a near interception on a ball he forced to Titus Davis. Trubisky hit an Arizona defender in the chest but he dropped it.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

OLB Carlos Thompson being carted off the field. Raiders rookie Kareem Are launched himself towards the pile, but instead caught Thompson on the left knee. Looks like a significant injury.

Jeff Dickerson ESPN Staff Writer

Roberto Aguayo just had an ugly miss from 49 yards. At this rate, Aguayo may not last much longer in Chicago.

Jeff Dickerson ESPN Staff Writer

Bears rookie Mitchell Trubisky was sacked on third down killing a promising drive. Trubisky went 3-for-4 for 24 yards after replacing Mark Sanchez late in the third quarter, but the pass protection was shaky.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

In the most preseason football moment you'll ever find, there were five penalty flags on one punt in the 49ers-Broncos game. There were so many penalties, one official had to read them to the other as he announced them. At one point in the middle, referee Pete Morelli began chuckling as he read them off. And after all that, they were offsetting penalties leading to replaying the down.

Sarah Barshop ESPN Staff Writer

J.J. Watt's TFL tonight was his first tackle in a game since his back surgery nearly a year ago. Watt said it was "a great feeling," but only a glimpse of what is possible this season: ."There's a lot of stuff I've been working on for a very long time. There's a lot of plays that have built up in the archives that I want to get out there and make."

Mitchell Trubisky completes his first pass to undrafted rookie Tanner Gentry for an 8-yard completion.

Bears rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky enters the game late in the third quarter. What can Trubisky do for an encore after Week 1 of the preseason?
