Jets brass will be in Chapel Hill, N.C., today for a private workout with UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky. He put it on the radar at his recent pro day, when he said the Jets were one of the teams that wanted private time with him. The Jets say they're open to drafting a quarterback with the sixth pick, which would surprise many around the league. They've also worked out Clemson's Deshaun Watson and Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer.

Part of what makes free agent Johnathan Hankins a valuable commodity is he turns just 25 today. Even with 5-year deal would be FA again before 30th birthday.

TEN HC Mike Mularkey told ESPN's NFL Insiders he will be "very cautious" this preseason with Marcus Mariota - goal is week 1, not preseason.

The Rams added a new LT (Whitworth), WR (Woods), RB (Dunbar), OLB (Barwin) and CB (Webster) in free agency. Sean McVay, on the roster: "I think they are taking on our image, kind of what we've all agreed that we're looking for. ... These are good people that kind of represent what we want to be in terms of that football character -- accountability, coach-ability. You can depend on these guys."

It's telling that the Seahawks are having this “We would for the right price” public conversation about Richard Sherman and not Earl Thomas.

As Tony Romo deliberates his future, I'm reminded of great Bill Parcells line: if you're thinking of retiring, then you've already retired.

The NFL has no update on Martavis Bryant, who is two months into the application process for reinstatement. A source close to Bryant says the suspended Steelers playmaker is encouraged by his case. Coach Mike Tomlin said he's 'hopeful' about Bryant's return but knows it's out of his hands. The Beaver (Pa.) County Times says reinstatement is imminent.

Major blow for TJ McDonald, the former Ram and current free-agent safety who, according to ESPN's Field Yates, has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2017 season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that it stemmed from McDonald's May DUI, which included drug charges. The Rams figured something would eventually come down from that, but were going to move on anyway. Maurice Alexander is moving over to strong safety, and Lamarcus Joyner has a strong chance of being the free safety on 3-4 sets (slot corner in nickel/dime packages).

The Packers have signed G Justin McCray, who has spent time with the Tennessee Titans. He played in college at Central Florida. Probably not a leading candidate to replace T.J. Lang at right guard but at least gives the Packers more competition there.
