INJURY UPDATE: CB Craig Mager returned to practice after missing the first two preseason games with a hamstring injury. The injury was the same hamstring Mager tore as a rookie, so the Chargers' training staff took extra precaution, Mager said. Left tackle Russell Okung returned to practice after missing last week's game against the Saints with an ankle issue. However, right tackle Joe Barksdale, who also missed last week, remained out with a sore foot. Lynn said that Barksdale is day-to-day. Backup tackle Tyreek Burwell had his broken right hand wrapped, but could play if he needs to this week against the Rams, Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said. Others who did not practice on Tuesday include Forrest Lamp (knee), Denzel Perryman (ankle), Jerry Attaochu (hamstring), Trovon Reed (hip), Casey Hayward (hamstring), Kenneth Farrow (ankle), Sean McGrath (knee), Mike Williams (back) and Jeff Cumberland (legs). Receiver Dontrelle Inman got dinged up midway through practice, leaving the field on his own and did not return with an undisclosed injury.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy commented on speculation about his future in Buffalo with an Instagram post Tuesday night saying, "So popping up they just keep popping up with rumors ...u can't control the future but put ya future in Gods hands and watch." The speculative topic of trading McCoy has gained steam in recent days following Buffalo dealing away top receiver Sammy Watkins.

Sammy Watkins is wearing No. 2, his number from Clemson, but will have to change it for the regular season. Receivers can only wear 80-89 or 10-19. Watkins wants to keep it in the teens. He wore 14 in Buffalo, which now belongs to backup QB Sean Mannion. Watkins hasn't approached Mannion about 14 yet.

Rams CB Trumaine Johnson, on Aaron Donald still holding out: "We'd love to have him here, but at the same time, I know what he's going through. I've been through it. It's a business at the end of the day. He's a very valuable player. Hopefully he gets what he's asking for."

OLB Robert Quinn and CB Kayvon Webster still have a chance of playing in Saturday's preseason game, but ILB Mark Barron will not and will thus begin the season without playing in a game. Webster's ankle was bothering him, so he didn't practice. Quinn was going to practice, but got a charley horse from Michael Brockers during a walk-through and stayed away. Tavon Austin (hamstring) did some agility drills on his own.

Rams coach Sean McVay says he has "a lot of respect" for Mike Martz. "You look at the production of offenses that he's been a part of. ... I don't know Coach Martz; I met him real quick at the combine a handful of years ago. But I have a lot of respect for what he's accomplished and can't say anything but good things about what he's done and what kind of coach he is."

Dom Capers thinks that if all the cornerbacks are healthy, the combination of players could change week to week. "That's why you need depth," the Packers defensive coordinator said. "You can't ever have enough defensive backs."

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Rams coach Sean McVay was asked about Mike Martz's comments that he only got the job to be "a buddy" to Jared Goff. Part of his response: "The bottom line is this: I've never been a head coach before; I haven't won a game. I haven't done anything. So it's going to be a great challenge." Full response in the video.
