The Los Angeles Rams made a major move to upgrade their receiving corps Friday morning, shipping a second-round pick in next year's draft and cornerback E.J. Gaines to the Buffalo Bills for wideout Sammy Watkins and a 2018 sixth-round pick.
The move reunites Watkins with wide receiver Robert Woods, who left the Bills for the Rams as a free agent this offseason, and gives 2016's top overall pick, Jared Goff, a potential No. 1 receiver. That said, acquiring Watkins carries plenty of risk, as he's struggled to stay on the field through three seasons and is due to hit free agency in March.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell broke down all aspects of the trade, concluding that the payoff isn't worth another hit to the Rams' draft capital after the team gave up two first-rounders, two second-rounders and two third-rounders to acquire Goff.
So, where do you stand on the deal?
Fans' first chance to see Watkins in a Rams uniform could be Saturday, Aug. 19, when the team visits the Oakland Raiders for its second preseason game.
