Jags shelve Will Middleton for season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed starting cornerback William Middleton on injured reserve with a knee injury, the third player done for the year at that position.

The Jaguars previously placed starters Rashean Mathis and Derek Cox on IR.

The team also signed cornerback David Jones to a contract. Jones played in 16 games, with five starts, last season for Jacksonville. He spent the 2011 preseason with the club. He was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 3 and reached an injury settlement a week later.

Jones, a fifth-round draft pick by New Orleans in 2007, has 74 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery in five seasons.

Middleton played in all 11 games for the Jaguars this season, with six starts.
