Chargers add LB Demorrio Williams

Linebacker Demorrio Williams, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday, agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the San Diego Chargers on Thursday, the team announced.

The team, which didn't reveal financial terms of the deal, said Williams will provide depth at inside linebacker behind starters Takeo Spikes and Donald Butler.

The Chiefs saved about $2 million in salary cap space when it released the 31-year-old Williams, who joined Kansas City in 2008 after four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, and eventually became the starter ahead of Derrick Johnson.

But Williams had been used primarily on special teams by the Chiefs the past few seasons as Johnson emerged as a Pro Bowl middle linebacker.
