Texans release Kevin Walter

The Texans released Kevin Walter on Tuesday, ending the wide receiver's seven-year stint in Houston.

Walter had 41 catches for 518 yards and two touchdowns last season for the AFC South champion Texans.

The decision to release Walter frees up $2.5 million in salary-cap space and puts the Texans $9.7 million under the cap, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The 31-year-old Walter has 4,379 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns in parts of 10 seasons with Houston and the Cincinnati Bengals.

A seventh-round draft selection in 2003, Walter ranks third on the Texans' all-time franchise lists in receptions (326), receiving yards (4,083) and touchdown catches (24).
