He tweaked his hamstring late in the 49ers' 29-3 loss at Seattle on Sunday night. San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh said before practice that Davis is "day to day." Davis was working on a side field.
However, Davis tweeted Tuesday night that he should be ready to play Sunday at home against the Indianapolis Colts and his younger brother, cornerback Vontae Davis. Vernon Davis tweeted that physicians want him to rest during the week, but he expects to play Sunday.
Davis was not available when media was in the San Francisco locker room Wednesday. If he is able to play this will be the first time the Davis brothers have met since Vontae Davis joined the league in 2009.
Meanwhile, San Francisco rookie safety Eric Reid was practicing in a non-contact jersey Wednesday. Harbaugh said he has no concussion symptoms. He will need to pass the NFL's concussion test before playing. He left the Seattle game in the second quarter.
Davis had 98 yards and two touchdowns on six catches in a Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers but struggled against Seattle, making just three catches for 20 yards.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick (foot) also showed up the injury report but was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
