Roster rankings: Steelers flying high

Pittsburgh has some holes, but there's talent up and down the lineup. The offensive line is particularly steady, without a weak link in the group.

With the NFL Network releasing its top 10 players of 2017 tonight, Ben Roethlisberger hasn't ranked higher than the No. 6 overall quarterback the last 3 years. Lots of fluidity save Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Steelers playmakers Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown are both in the top 10, while Roethlisberger is No. 22 overall.

Antonio Brown has a few new workout partners this offseason - Washington Redskins receiver Terrelle Pryor and New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith. Both players were going through drills with Brown this week at the Steelers' practice facility, according to Brown's always-entertaining Snapchat feed. Brown works out at various places throughout the offseason and likes to incorporate new friends in the process.

Top of the QB market: Ben Roethlisberger

Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers and Eli Manning were each set to become unrestricted free agents at the end of the 2015 season. Note the tiny differences between their contracts and the order in which they signed.

Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown made the top 10 in the NFL Network's Top 100 Players of 2017 list. The network will unveil the final 10 on June 26 starting at 8 p.m. The Steelers and Atlanta Falcons (Julio Jones, Matt Ryan) are the only teams with two players in the top 10.

Cornerback Justin Gilbert (suspended for the year) was another example of the Steelers taking a calculated risk on a player labeled with character issues. Gilbert played 11 snaps for the Steelers defense in one season. The focus has never been there despite obvious talent. Running back Karlos Williams was suspended and released. One success in that area, despite multiple suspensions...Martavis Bryant.

Steelers running back James Conner has third-round star power, ranking 11th in May jersey sales according to NFL Shop. Conner is sandwiched between Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the rankings. Conner also ranks three spots ahead of Steelers receiver Antonio Brown.

Goodell backs celebrations on AB's Snapchat

"With the best commish in the game ... we're allowed to celebrate now," Antonio Brown said in the social media post. Roger Goodell replied with a thumbs-up and a "let's do it."

Bud Carson, the Steelers' defensive coordinator for two Super Bowl wins in the 70s, is the recipient of the Dr. Z Award from the Professional Football Writers Association. Carson was Pittsburgh's coordinator from 1973-77 and was known as an architect of the Cover 2 defense. Carson, who died in 2005, also coordinated defenses for the Rams, Colts, Chiefs, Jets and Eagles. The Dr. Z Award, named after Sports Illustrated's Paul Zimmerman, has celebrated assistant coaching excellence since 2014.
