Panthers defense taking a step back?

Declining numbers for Carolina's D are partly a result of a more turnover-prone offense. But the Panthers haven't exploited a few below-average QBs, which doesn't bode well, Bill Barnwell writes. Stacking the best defenses

The last time Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin went without a catch before Sunday's loss to Minnesota was his 2012 season at Florida State when he didn't have a target or a catch against South Florida in Week 5. His worst game statistically in the NFL prior to having no catches on one target on Sunday was the final week of his 2014 rookie season. He had one catch on five targets for nine yards against Atlanta.

"We knew where (Kelvin) Benjamin was the whole time. Funchess, we weren't worried about him. I'm just going to be honest. Me personally, and I never talk like this, but I don't think (Funchess) is that good."
