Not only did Luke Kuechly join the 99 Club this year, but his awareness (98) is the best of any defensive player. Meanwhile, the Panthers tied for second on offense (91) and first overall (87). Ultimate Madden 17 preview

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been on the cover of Sports Illustrated enough times between his college and NFL career that he doesn't really worry about the jinx. Good thing, because the reigning MVP is on one of the four regional covers for SI's 2016 NFL preview, The headline reads: "Feel The Heat: Think One Disastrous Super Bowl Will Cool Down Cam Newton? Think Again."

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said wide receiver Philly Brown was shut down today after taking a shot to the shoulder. Brown underwent offseason shoulder surgery so this was precautionary. Tight end Greg Olsen didn't participate in team drills but he could have played had this been the regular season.

Norman rips Goodell, backs 'Redskins' in Mag

Redskins cornerback Josh Norman, in the upcoming issue of ESPN The Magazine, calls Roger Goodell "straight horrible" and said the Panthers "kind of shunned me" after rescinding his franchise tag.

Apparently I missed a skirmish between Panthers rookie cornerback Daryl Worley and wide receiver Devin Funchess while attending to home alarm that my dog set off. Worley tried to knock the ball loose with the "Peanut Punch" after giving up a catch on a slant route. The two went to the ground with Funchess holding on to Worley's facemask a bit too long. Things have settled down after a few intense moments. Worley just had a pick of a Derek Anderson pass. Came up limping at the end of the return but appears fine now.

Greg Olsen primed for best season of all TEs in 2016

Greg Olsen rises to No. 45 in ESPN's top 100 player rankings. KC Joyner says as impressive as that leap is, just wait for 2016, as the Panthers' veteran could elevate to the NFL's top tight end.

David Newton ESPN Staff Writer

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen (back spasms) will be in pads on Tuesday if there are no setbacks from today's workout with the trainer. He said backup safety Trenton Robinson, who suffered a shoulder injury in the first half of Saturday's win at Tennessee, will see the doctor again tomorrow. Didn't sound good.

Will be interesting to hear what retired cornerback Charles Tillman has to say about the Panthers' rookie corners. Tillman, who played last season at Carolina, has spent some time working with the defensive backs, no doubt teaching them the technique of his "Peanut Punch" that helped him to 44 forced fumbles. He is a special guest of the team for today's practice.

Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen (back) apparently not ready for team drills. Heads to the side to work. Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart working on the side as well but no apparent injury.
