Bill O'Brien said he expects the starters to play about the same number of snaps as they did last week against the Saints. "A lot of it depends on how it's going, you know?" O'Brien said. "If it's something where we feel like we want to get Brock (Osweiler) some more snaps, let's just say in the first half, then we'll continue to play him."

The Texans' helmets were almost white

The Texans have worn navy helmets since their debut in 2002, but the team's original unveiling featured a white helmet. As Paul Lukas notes, that version lives on in the 2002 version of Madden. Uni Watch's Friday Flashback

Texans' non-QB MVP: Well, that's easy

J.J. Watt is almost certainly the most valuable non-quarterback in the entire NFL, let alone Houston's roster. That's why his recovery from back surgery is so crucial. Non-QB MVPs

Bill O'Brien said last week that though he wants to see the starting offensive line get reps together, the positive of the starters missing time is that a lot of the other players have gotten more reps than they usually would. Greg Mancz is a great example. He has gotten plenty of opportunities, and has impressed O'Brien thus far.

Nick Martin will miss at least four months with ankle surgery, ESPN confirmed on Thursday. Martin had won the starting center job after the first few weeks of camp, but Greg Mancz has played well in his absence. A tough blow for an offensive line already missing Duane Brown (quadriceps) and Derek Newton (hamstring). Texans will have the option to bring him back to practice after six weeks, under new IR rules.

Bill O'Brien gave rookie nose tackle D.J Reader the chance to end practice 20 minutes early if he could catch a punt. Reader came through and the whole team cheered loudly after he made the catch. O'Brien said picked someone he has confidence in to catch the punt, but knew there was chance he may drop it. "He did a good job," O'Brien said. "He's had a good camp. He's a young player, so that's usually what I try to do there."

An injury update from practice: Braxton Miller sat out if practice with what Bill O'Brien called "a little rest day. J.J. Watt (back) was out rehabbing on a separate field today, as he has all week. O'Brien did not have an update on center Nick Martin (ankle).

Yes, J.J. Watt once again topped #NFLRank, but another Texan also cracked the top 25. After a huge season, Hopkins finished higher than any other player who did not make last year's list. #NFLRank: 25-1
