J.J. Watt will fall off historic sack pace

Watt is 4.5 sacks short of the second-most by a player through his first six seasons since sacks became official in 1982. However, he'd have a tough time catching Reggie White for first even if he were completely healthy.

J.J. Watt's injury a rare situation for NFL

If Watt doesn't play again this year, he'll miss 13 games, the second-most ever by a reigning DPOY. Reggie White missed all 16 in 1999 after retiring, though he returned in 2000 for one more year with the Panthers.

WR Braxton Miller did not practice today, but was rehabbing on the side of the field. He injured his hamstring against the Chiefs in Week 2. ILB Brian Cushing (knee) and LT Duane Brown (torn quadriceps) were out of the field again. Cushing said there is a "possibility" that he will play on Sunday against the Titans.

The cupboard isn't bare in Houston

Yes, losing J.J. Watt and his 76 career sacks hurts. But Houston has other capable rushers to lean on, including the blossoming Whitney Mercilus and the newly re-signed Antonio Smith.

ESPN Stats & Info

The impact of J.J. Watt's absence

Since Watt was drafted, the Texans have sacked opposing QBs on nearly 7 percent of dropbacks when he's on the field. With Watt off the field, that number drops to 4.3, and opponents' QBR improves accordingly.

A lot riding on Titans-Texans on Sunday

ESPN's Football Power Index doesn't see this as a high-quality matchup, but it has serious implications in the weak AFC South. Both teams' divisional odds will swing wildly depending on the outcome. FPI game rater

Texans have had no success without Watt

In the franchise's first nine years of existence, Houston won less than 40 percent of its games and never made the playoffs. Since drafting J.J. Watt in 2011, the Texans have won three division titles and two playoff games.
