Sales slower than usual for Super Bowl tickets

Changes in how Super Bowl tickets are alloted caused a slowdown in sales compared to years past. Industry insiders say the number of tickets listed on StubHub were roughly half the usual volume.

ViewFromVegas of Super Bowl 51 (at midnight ET): After early betting, the New England Patriots are 3-point favorites over the Atlanta at all 13 sports-book operators in Las Vegas, with Boyd Gaming shading the line the most at NE -3 (-120). The over/under has been bet up to 59 points at the majority of books after opening at 58 at most books (MGM and Jerry's Nugget have both gone to 59.5).

Our Football Power Index gave the Patriots a 21% chance to make the Super Bowl and the Falcons a 1.2% chance to make it.

The Atlanta Falcons will face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI on Feb. 5 (6:30 p.m., FOX). It will be MVP frontrunner Matt Ryan vs. Tom Brady. Patriots lead the all-time series, 7-6. Last meeting was 2013, a 30-23 Pats' win in New England.

The MGM also opened New England -3 over Atlanta in Super Bowl 51 but went even higher on the over/under at 59 points. Stations and Boyd Gaming have joined MGM at 59 while the Westgate, William Hill and Stratosphere have joined the Wynn at 58.5.

William is the only one with a line different from the standard 10-percent vig as it's moved to Patriots -3 (-120). Note: offshore books are shading the +3 line toward the Falcons. The over/under is 58 points in Vegas with the Wynn being the first to move to 58.5.
