Lions LB Jarrad Davis: "I'm going to be honest. I'm a huge Cowboys fan." That said he enjoyed watching Matthew Stafford play. Now he is playing for Detroit so that likely will go away.

Lions LB Jarrad Davis said he played running back the first time he played football. Got hit and wondered if he wanted to do this. Played RB until middle school when he started playing linebacker. Loves playing LB and being able to hit.

Round 2 mock draft: Lions boost pass rush

Detroit's 26 sacks last season were good for 30th in the league. In the second round, the Lions could add someone to take some of the weight off of Ezekiel Ansah.

Day 1 winners, question marks and more

Equipped with great intangibles and attitude, it's possible Jarrad Davis could start as a rookie for the Lions.

Detroit Lions draft so far: 1 (21). Jarrad Davis, LB, Florida

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

New Lions LB Jarrad Davis said he learned both the MIKE and WILL linebacker positions when he got to Florida. He'll be looked at in both positions with Detroit along with Tahir Whitehead, Paul Worrilow and Antwione Williams.

Jarrad Davis said being able to watch the draft and then being picked was "unreal." Has watched it since he has been a kid. Said he first started envisioning being drafted when he went to Florida.

Lions GM Bob Quinn said he wasn't tempted by big names dropping. Nothing serious came about to move up. He said Davis is a player he believes will become a leader in time for Detroit. He'll be in the mix at both linebacker spots.

Lions GM Bob Quinn said character is big to him during the draft process. You "minimize risk" with those players.

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

Lions GM Bob Quinn said there were a few trade calls but nothing serious. Said the early receiver run was "a good thing to see."

The Lions will see both Myles Garrett and Jabrill Peppers in Detroit when Cleveland comes to Detroit on Nov. 12. That should be a more intriguing game now with the Michigan prospect in Peppers and the top overall pick in Garrett trying to fluster Matthew Stafford.

ESPN Stats and Information

Jarrad Davis missed some time during his final season, but he was still awfully productive for the Gators. He also posted a 4.58 40-yard dash and a 38.5-inch vertical jump at his pro day.

The Lions take Jarrad Davis, LB, Florida. He is one of the top linebackers on the board and everything GM Bob Quinn wants in a player. High-character, good athleticism and an immediate starter replacing DeAndre Levy.

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

The Lions are on the clock with a bunch of defensive players remaining including impact linebackers Reuben Foster and Jarrad Davis. Have to think DC Teryl Austin gets a good player here to slip into his defense.

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

The Lions have to like their options as they get on the clock after Denver. Should have the pick of a few good defensive players like defensive ends Takk McKinley, Taco Charlton and Charles Harris along with linebackers Reuben Foster, Jarrad Davis and T.J. Watt. A bunch of good options to improve the front seven.

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

First real potential pick for the Lions is off the board in LB Haason Reddick to Arizona. But Detroit has to like how this board is falling so far with so many offensive players off the board. Both top tight ends, O.J. Howard and David Njoku, are both out there, too.

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

Still a lot of picks to go before No. 21 but the offensive player run could bode very well for Detroit grabbing a high-level defensive player. Detroit GM Bob Quinn has to like how this board is falling so far if he wants to improve defensive speed. But a long way to 21.

Michael Rothstein ESPN Staff Writer

Lions GM Bob Quinn on radio station WJR in Detroit about his draft room: "It's pretty calm. I think that's what people on the outside don't really understand. It's not like the movie 'Draft Day.' What was that movie from Cleveland that was a couple years ago? It's not like that."

The Lions will see Mitchell Trubisky a bunch now after he was taken at No. 2 by the Bears. It'll be interesting to see if he's on the field by Nov. 19, when the Lions head to Chicago. Lions TE Eric Ebron, a former North Carolina teammate, tweeted "Dang lol I gotta beat him twice a year (tear emoji) my poor friend"
