Lions HC Jim Caldwell said he won't put a mandate on his players to stand during the anthem. If a player chose to do that, he would discuss it with them to find out reasons. Said Colin Kaepernick has right to sit during anthem, but doesn't necessarily agree with it.

Why Stafford could factor in MVP race

Matthew Stafford is far from a top contender. But if he plays the way he did in the second half of last season, he'll get some well-deserved attention for it. Insider predictions

Also, sixth-round pick - LS Jimmy Landes -- headed to IR for the Lions and will need shoulder surgery. He took every long snap Saturday against Baltimore. Don Muhlbach wins that job.

Lions LB DeAndre Levy said on TV: "I'm good to go for the regular season." Levy debuted Saturday against the Ravens.

RAVENS 30, LIONS 9 (FINAL): If this was supposed to be a "dress rehearsal" for the Lions, then Jim Caldwell needs to be worried about what's going to happen when the curtain goes up on the season against Indianapolis on Sept. 11. The Lions offense seemed off all night. Penalties were an issue while the starters were in. The offensive line protected better and the defensive line pressured well but otherwise, there's a lot to be concerned about in Detroit.

RAVENS 20, LIONS 6 (HALF): It has been a rough half for the Lions. Penalties were everywhere -- 8 for 80 yards including multiple personal fouls. Matthew Stafford threw a bad interception. The offense struggled to move. That's the bad news. Good news? The offensive line held up well, particularly LT Taylor Decker. Ameer Abdullah and DeAndre Levy played and looked OK. Oh, and Matt Prater had a 60-yard FG.
