Overheard: "We don't have any motorized tackling dummies or anything like that. They wanted to have a unit where they threw water balloons at the media, but I said, nah. I wasn't for it." – Packers coach Mike McCarthy to the media before the first training camp practice.

Rookie report: The Packers are easing top pick Kevin King into things. After he missed most of the offseason program because his school (Washington) was still in session, the second-round cornerback worked mostly with the No. 2 defense on Day 1. "Mentally, I know Kevin's ready go," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. It may not be long before King moves his way in with the starters but for now, Davon House and LaDarius Gunter took the first-team reps.

Best play of Packers' camp Day 1: The Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams connection that took off last season was on display early. Rodgers delivered a perfect deep ball to Adams, who had beaten cornerback LaDarius Gunter on a go route. Adams barely had to outstretch for the ball that he caught in stride for a 60-yard touchdown. Gunter's biggest weakness is speed, and it showed when he let Adams beat get behind him.

Ranking weapons: Packers just miss top 10

Aaron Rodgers obviously stirs the drink for a group that has changed a lot over the past year, but there's plenty of talent here as well.

How in the world is a safety like Kentrell Brice supposed to cover the gigantic Martellus Bennett?

One other Packers injury note: TE Aaron Peck (hamstring) is starting camp on the non-football injury list. He's an undrafted rookie from Fresno State.

Solid start for rookie punter Justin Vogel (5): Five punts from his own 20 averaged 51.0 yards and 4.45 seconds of hang time. He was kicking downwind and one shaky rep -- a 38-yarder with 4.3 hang time.

The Packers aren't throwing top pick Kevin King right in with the starters. Davon House and LaDarius Gunter are the corners in base with Damarious Randall as the nickel.
