The Jets have signed well-traveled WR Deonte Thompson, his agent tweeted. Thompson played under Adam Gase with the Bears in 2015. He has 94 career catches, 1,193 yards and four TDs, including three catches last year for the Bills.

The Jets will conduct their first OTA practice today — a voluntary workout (closed to media). Top storylines leading into the June 4 mandatory minicamp: 1. Will Le'Veon Bell show up? Probably not until minicamp; 2. QB Sam Darnold, who has impressed the new coaching staff with his work ethic, gets his first chance to perform in a practice before new boss Adam Gase; 3. Fiery DC Gregg Williams begins to mold his unit, which includes two key newcomers in LB C.J. Mosley and rookie DT Quinnen Williams. 4. S Marcus Maye (shoulder) and T Brandon Shell (knee) are the biggest injury questions that have been disclosed.

In less than a week as the interim GM, Adam Gase has jettisoned two draft picks from the previous regime. The latest to go is TE Jordan Leggett, who was waived Monday. Leggett, a fifth-round pick in 2017, was limited by injuries and caught only 14 passes in 15 games over two seasons. Leggett was considered a flex/receiving tight end; Chris Herndon and Neal Sterling remain in that role. The "blocking" tight ends are Eric Tomlinson, Daniel Brown and Trevon Wesco. Last week, Gase traded former first-round pick Darron Lee.

Interim GM/coach Adam Gase has made his second personnel move as the man in charge, signing free-agent punter Matt Darr — his punter with the Dolphins in 2016. Gase cut Darr in 2017. Darr resurfaced late last season with the Bills, punting in five games. Darr will be competition for incumbent Lachlan Edwards.

WR Robby Anderson finally has signed his RFA tender — one year, $3.095M, as ESPN's Field Yates reported. As noted last week, Anderson and Rams LB Cory Littleton were the only RFAs with a second-round tender who hadn't signed. Restricted free agency ended April 19, so it was only a matter of time before Anderson got around to signing.

Coach/interim GM Adam Gase will "assist" in the search for a new GM, per Jets CEO Christopher Johnson. The favorite is Eagles VP of player personnel Joe Douglas, a a close friend of Gase. They worked together with the Bears in 2015, Gase as OC and Douglas as director of college scouting. They talk a lot of the phone, one source said. Douglas is a respected talent evaluator who got his start under former Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome. Champ Kelly, the Bears' assistant director of player personnel, is another potential candidate. So is Lance Newmark, the Lions' director of player personnel. The new GM will report directly to Johnson.

On the same day he was elevated to interim GM, Adam Gase showed everyone he's in charge. He agreed to trade LB Darron Lee, one of Mike Maccagnan's former first-round picks, to the Chiefs. All they got back was a 2020 sixth-round pick. For that return, they should've kept Lee. Look, we all know he hasn't lived up to expectations, but Lee could've been a nickel linebacker in sub packages. DC Gregg Williams is a creative coach and could've figured out ways to use him. His cap charge ($3.25M) wasn't prohibitive. This smacks of Gase delivering a message that a new sheriff is calling the shots.
