The Chargers got a roster exemption for Joey Bosa, so he does not count against the team's 75-man roster. San Diego also confirmed the release of WR James Jones and QB Zach Mettenberger, placed RB Branden Oliver (Achilles) and G Donavan Clark (knee) on IR, waived/injured WR Javontee Herndon, DT Zamir Carlis, OT Tyler Johnstone and RB Dreamius Smith to get down to 75 players.

Joey Bosa said his mom Cheryl Bosa did not realize her Facebook comments on social media were public when she said her family should have done what Eli Manning did to the Chargers: "What do you expect from a mom?" Bosa said. "She wants what is best for me. ... It was a dumb decision. Leave it to a mom to mess up like this."

Joey Bosa said he did not get involved in the business part of contract negotiations. He trusted his parents and agents to do what's best because they've been through it before. He said it was strange to watch his team playing on TV. "We came to a fair deal and there's no animosity between any of us."

The Chargers waived WR Torrence Allen, CB Michael Lee, CB Greg Ducre, DT Bruce Gaston, C Bruce Johnson, outside linebacker Zach Hodges. The Chargers also claimed RB Gus Johnson (Falcons) and placed C Chris Watt on reserve PUP. San Diego's roster now stands at 84, and they have to get down to 75 by 4 pm ET on Tuesday.
