Bennett backed by brother Martellus, Baldwin

Michael Bennett received support from his brother, Martellus, and Seahawks teammate Doug Baldwin on Tuesday, two days after the defensive end chose to sit during the national anthem.

Pete Carroll said that "without question" Seahawks WR Paul Richardson will be ready for the regular season. "To look that good today, if we do it right and don't take him too far too fast, he'll be in great shape." Richardson suffered an AC sprain in his right shoulder Sunday vs. the Chargers. Meanwhile, LB K.J. Wright was absent at Tuesday's practice because of a knee issue. "He's got a little process that we're going through to help his knee. He just has something that's been nagging. So he's out of town working on that this week."

Doug Baldwin was asked if he's concerned about a segment of fans being turned off by players sitting for the national anthem.

Doug Baldwin said he wholeheartedly supports Michael Bennett and is thinking about joining him and sitting during the National Anthem. Pete Carroll said he supports Bennett's message but thinks everyone should stand.

Has Michael Bennett already peaked?

The 31-year-old Bennett has been more disruptive than his sack numbers would indicate, and there's reason to believe his first season topping 10 sacks could still be ahead of him.

Blair Walsh was a big bright spot for the Seahawks in the first half. He connected on both field-goal attempts (from 42 and 28 yards out) and all four extra points. On kickoffs, Walsh notched touchbacks on three of five attempts. Walsh has looked good in camp recently and is hoping for a big comeback in Seattle.

Seahawks backup QB Trevone Boykin led the offense on a nice scoring drive that culminated with a 2-yard TD pass to Kenny Lawler on fourth down. Overall, Boykin is 4-for-5 for 58 yards and a score. He's in line to be Russell Wilson's backup once again going into the 2017 season.

Seahawks' Bennett stays on bench for anthem

Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett remained seated Sunday with a towel draped atop his head during the singing of the national anthem before the Seahawks' preseason game against the Chargers.

Seahawks WR Paul Richardson made a diving 25-yard catch on the team's first offensive drive. Richardson has been getting first-team snaps ahead of Jermaine Kearse at practice. At running back, it was Thomas Rawls over Eddie Lacy. Rawls carried two times for 5 yards. And Blair Walsh got off to a good start, drilling a 42-yard field goal.

The Seahawks' defense did not get off to a good start, giving up a 13-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to the Chargers. Philip Rivers was 5-for-6 for 56 yards. One bright spot for the Seahawks was that Earl Thomas looked healthy on an early pass breakup. He got to the sideline and unloaded on WR Tyrell Williams to force an incompletion.

Three players to watch when the Seahawks open their preseason Sunday: RB Chris Carson, CB Shaquill Griffin and LT George Fant. Carson has looked great all camp and would be generating a ton of buzz if he were a first- or second-round pick. This will be his chance to prove himself in a live game setting. Griffin will start at RCB and could win the job opposite Richard Sherman with a strong preseason. And Fant is a player the Seahawks need to make the leap. He's had a great offseason and transformed his body but has to play a lot better than he did a season ago.
