Bengals end 5-game losing streak, beat Raiders 30-16

Joe Mixon had another big game Sunday, rushing for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and the Cincinnati Bengals held on for a 30-16 victory over the Oakland Raiders that ended one of their longest losing streaks under coach Marvin Lewis.

The Bengals' 30-16 win against the Raiders was their first win since October and snaps a five-game losing streak, but at 6-8, they were eliminated from wildcard contention today.

Bengals' leading receiver Boyd out with injury

Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd passed the 1,000-yard mark for the season on Sunday but later was ruled out for the game against the Raiders with a knee injury.

Bengals wideout Tyler Boyd said in early November that he wanted to honor Chad Johnson by doing one of his touchdown celebrations. He even watched YouTube videos to get ready for it. But the Bengals collapsed and didn't win another game, while Boyd only scored one touchdown during their five-game losing streak. Boyd's touchdown against the Raiders on Sunday seemed like a good time to break it out, as he became the first Bengals' wideout other than A.J. Green to break the 1,000-yard mark since Johnson himself in 2009. Boyd did the Riverdance in the end zone, a nod to one of Johnson's many infamous celebrations.

The new normal for the 5-8 Bengals these days: an empty stadium, two penalties and a dropped interception on the first series. The Bengals are limping to the finish line after a promising start to the season

Bengals inactives: CB KeiVarae Russell, CB Davontae Harris, LB Vontaze Burfict, OT Cedric Ogbuehi, WR Josh Malone, TE Jordan Franks, DE Kasim Edebali

Bengals' defensive end Michael Johnson, left tackle Cordy Glenn, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and cornerback Tony McRae are questionable to play against the Raiders. Cornerback KeiVarae Russell, who was in a sling this week, is doubtful to play with a finger issue.

Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has not played a full season since 2013 due to suspensions and injuries, and part of that is due to concussions. Burfict has gone into concussion protocol at least six times, sustaining a concussion at the end of the 2013 season, then in back to back weeks to start 2014. He has missed time in December due to concussions for three straight seasons now. Burfict has not returned to practice since sustaining a concussion against the Broncos on Dec. 2, 2018, making it fair to wonder if the team will simply shut him down for the rest of the season.

With left tackle Cordy Glenn back at practice and left guard Clint Boling a full participant on Thursday, that bodes well for the Bengals' offensive line being intact for the first time in several weeks. Boling was moved over to left tackle in place of Glenn, with Trey Hopkins taking his place at left guard. It'll be interesting to see what they do with Christian Westerman, who was rotating in with Hopkins to get his first serious playing time of the year. Marvin Lewis said OL coach Frank Pollack wanted to get Westerman in there. However it would seem unlikely that they take Boling out for Westerman, so his playing time would probably have to come on the right side.

Bengals won't have a winning season this year, despite improved play against the Chargers. They fall to 5-8 after losing 26-21. A lot of things didn't go their way, including an overturned Jeff Driskel touchdown, key penalties, and a lack of converting two-point plays. Their improved play came too little, too late this year.

Injured inactives are Cordy Glenn, Dre Kirkpatrick, Tony Mcrae and Vontaze Burfict. Cedric Ogbuehi, Josh Malone and Kasim Edebali are healthy scratches, so Auden Tate is active.
