Patrick Mahomes turned 23 on Monday, a day after he threw six touchdown passes in the Chiefs' 42-37 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The way he made it sound, there wasn't much of a celebration. “I came (to the Chiefs' practice facility) and I got to watch some film,'' he said. “I didn't want to go to dinner. My girlfriend had gotten me a cake and so I just ordered (delivery). She said that's fine with her as long as that's what I wanted to do.'' Staying low-key about a birthday is in line with how Mahomes said he's handling the national attention he's receiving for throwing an NFL record 10 touchdown passes in the first two games of the season, both Kansas City wins. “I've seen it on social media but that hasn't really fazed me,'' he said. “It's still early in the season. I know there's a lot of season left. For me, it's just all about the process, the process of every day having a routine, going in there, doing what you need to do in order to have success.''
