Chiefs activate Duvernay-Tardiff to bolster OL

Chiefs guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who started the first five games before breaking his leg and tearing ligaments in his ankle, will be activated for Sunday's game vs. the Pats.

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

The Chiefs activated guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif off the injured reserve list and waived safety Ron Parker. Duvernay-Tardif could take his place as the starter at right guard for Sunday's AFC championship game that he lost when he broke his leg and tore ankle ligaments in an October game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The release of Parker could be a sign that Eric Berry will be available to play against the Patriots. Otherwise, the Chiefs have just three safeties in Daniel Sorensen, Eric Murray and Jordan Lucas.b

Three reasons why Mahomes can throw to open windows (1:43)

Andy Reid said safety Eric Berry's playing status for Sunday's AFC championship is day'to-day. But Reid has said the same thing all season and Berry played in just two games. He didn't play for the Chiefs in the divisional round playoff game against the Colts nor the final regular season game against the Raiders. “I'm not disappointed,'' Reid said. “(It's) most important that when he and if he can play that he can protect himself and play at the level he wants to play at. He didn't feel like he was at that level . . . It's one of those deals. If he can go, he can go. If he can't, he can't.''

It's only the second quarter, but the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has already opened odds on the AFC Championship Game: Chiefs -3 vs. Patriots, with a total of 59.

The Chiefs posted the best pass block win rate (72%) among the four teams that played yesterday. Their effort was led by left tackle Eric Fisher, who had a PBWR of 100%, meaning he did not get beat within the first 2.5 seconds after the snap on a single play. Fisher faced Colts DL Al-Quadin Muhammad on 20 of his 39 pass blocks. The former first overall pick posted a PBWR of 84% during the regular season, above the league average for OTs of 80%. Can Andy Reid rewrite the book on 'Playoff Andy'?

The table is set for Reid and the Chiefs, playing at home next week behind their likely MVP quarterback, to finally change their unflattering postseason narrative.

Clark: Chiefs would '100 percent' beat Pats in AFC Championship (1:00)

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

“The narrative all week was their (offensive) line against our defense and adverse weather conditions and how that favors them and they were going to run the ball all over us. That's really all you heard and a lot of people chose the Colts to win the game outright . . . I thought we had a pretty good offense ourselves this year and there wasn't much talk about how we would do and the things we were capable of.'' – Chiefs tackle Mitchell Schwartz.

The weather forecast for next Sunday in Kansas City for the AFC championship calls for a high temperature of 19 degrees.

"It's been a long time coming. It's something we feel as an organization we should have accomplished in recent history. Since Andy's came here, we've had a lot of shots. But finally we get a chance to win that AFC championship and to get to do it at home is so special for us.'' -- Chairman Clark Hunt on the Chiefs getting to play host to the conference title game for the first time in franchise history.
