Rosenfels gets start at quarterback

INDIANAPOLIS -- Sage Rosenfels started ahead of Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night in their preseason opener against Indianapolis.

For months, it was uncertain if either would have a chance to be the starter as the Vikings courted Brett Favre. The longtime Green Bay quarterback eventually chose to remain retired, leaving Rosenfels and Jackson to compete for the position.

Minnesota acquired Rosenfels in a trade with the Houston Texans during the offseason. He started five games for Houston last season.

Jackson started for the Vikings at the end of last season and helped Minnesota win the NFC North title. He led the Vikings in their wild-card loss to Philadelphia.
