Report: Saints' Brown out for preseason

New Orleans Saints left tackle Jammal Brown has undergone surgery by a doctor specializing in sports hernia injuries and has returned to New Orleans, The Times-Picayune reported Saturday.

The paper cited NFL sources in saying the Saints' two-time Pro Bowler had been operated on by Philadelphia-based Dr. William Myers and said Brown is expected to miss the rest of training camp while recovering.

Brown complained of a lingering pain in his upper groin area Thursday morning after experiencing a flareup Wednesday after the Saints' second practice. He was sent to Philadelphia to see Myers.

The Saints play the Houston Texans Saturday night, and third-year player Jermon Bushrod is expected to start in Brown's absence.
