Doug Martin fine after hit to head

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin told the Tampa Times he didn't suffer a concussion after taking a shot to the head in Friday's preseason game against the New England Patriots.

Martin was hit by defensive end Chandler Jones's knee while pass blocking. After the game, Martin said he passed all concussion tests, according to the paper.

"It was just a tough play," Martin told the paper. "Things happen."

Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano also said Martin is OK.

"I think Doug is going to be fine," Schiano said, according to the paper. "He got hit in the head but he cleared really quickly. I saw him at halftime and he was fine. He was going to play one more play."

Martin made an immediate impact as rookie last season, rushing for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 49 receptions for 472 yards and a score.
